I would suggest seeing a neurologist to get an updated diagnosis.

Any diagnosis of seizures can be a big deal when it comes to getting a CDL. it's a high risk condition that can significantly impair your ability to drive.

Your first ate should be to see a DOT approved doctor to discuss what can be done.

Good luck!

Saw neurologist today, thats why I started this thread. He's the one that told me to check in with the KY dmv Med board

From all of the info on FMCSA's site and google searches I've found quite a few discussions on getting cdl and renewing a CDL even tho someone has had a TBI in the past. Some peeps are getting exemptions even while taking the meds even tho the meds are restricted. Does anyone have knowledge of this??

Well I talked with a lady from the FMCSA today and she told me to go ahead and go to the DOT doc that gives physicals and see what he says, tell him whats going on and he may require med records but its up to him if I drive interstate or intrastate. I was also told that I could drive interstate and still take the meds that are restricted but only with an exemption.

Flatbed Variety

Well we delivered the last 4 bridge beams today. My pilot had his daughter with him and she decided to take a video of me making a corner in Helena. Not a good one but it works.

I wish there was a way to imbed them in here but oh well.

That was a really good video of how the process works, thanks for that!!!!embarrassed.gifembarrassed.gifshocked.pngthank-you-2.gif

Melton Transport

Hi guys and gals, I did speak with a driver at Melton Saturday at their Birmingham terminal. He told me alot about the company and he told me that they are getting new trucks in and that they would be automatics also, that so many new drivers have never driven a manual trans before is the reason. I just wanted to inform anyone that was wanting to go to Melton just to give a heads up about this.

Officials add sensor after ‘can opener’ bridge causes 107 crashes

STOP, let the air out of all of your tires, drive under the bridge, re- inflate all of your tires, proceed!

Don't let anyone catch you doing this or you'll be in the next Swift meme haha. I can see it now...

"I wanted to haul flatbed..." [Background picture of Swift truck with 18 flat tires]

The lowest point for overhanging wires is supposed to be 14' across roads, thats national electiral codes standards. So if anyone hits the wires then its their fault for not checking the height clearances I would assume. Now if your truck hits the iwres and your under or at the height limit 13'6" then the city or state your driving thru would be responsible I would assume. I used to be an electrician so I somewhat know the rules in this instance. If anyone has a problem then they should contact whoever they need to I'm assuming.

What are the Best and Worst Trucking Companies to Work for?

Oh, forgot to say that if you'd like to learn more about how to choose a company that suits you well we have some excellent resources for you:

Hey guys, I'll be heading to Florida tonight and on the way back saturday I'm gonna stop in to Melton's terminal in Birmingham to whats its all about. I figure I could talk to a few of the drivers that are there and maybe get a view of a few of the trucks while I'm at it. Also they have a guy that runs orientation there so I'll talk with him if he's in the terminal while I'm there. I figure since I'm heading that direction anyway that I would stop and ask a few questions to get a feel for one or two companies while I was in the area. When I get back I'll fill you all in on what we talked about and how they run the company from a drivers perspective. Maybe even get in a few tips from them to share with you all.

Help me wrap my head around the decision to become a truck driver

Wonder if it is possible to get satellite internet while on the road. I think both dish and DTV offer satellite internet, not sure of that though. It would work similar to using satellite TV while on the road, just clamp the dish to your mirror when you are parked and you have good internet everywhere. That may be something I look into.

Dude its really not worth it, I had sat service thru hughesnet and the only times that are truely free is between 2am and 8 am. The rest of the time is throttled and it talkes up your bandwidth to much. I was paying for sat service here at my house and it was costing me over 100 a month for the next to best package and I ran out of bandwidth before the month was up and you have to sign a 2 year ageement to get it. Its really not worth it to get satelite internet, just get it thru the truck stop you go to alot!!!

What kind of head injury are you talking about? Did you have seizures connected to it? What kinds of meds were/are you taking?

Not trying to get too personal here, we just need a little more info to give any kind of advice.

Something you can consider doing is talking to a doctor who does DOT physicals. They would be able to answer questions concerning past injuries. But keep in mind, most companies will do their own physicals and may be more stringent on their disqualifying criteria. You would have to discuss your medical history with individual recruiters for companies you are interested in to find out whether the company would hire you.

the med is called carbamazepine, and I had a TBI in 1992, none are documented but from my 1st ex wife told the doc I was having intermittent seizures of some sort and thats why I was put on the meds over 12 years ago. to my knowledge and from others around me none have happened in over 12 years. Those spells they are calling seizures happened only while drinking heavily which I've not done in quite an amount of years. the doc I saw today said he wouldn't consider what was happening a seizure but something else but its hard to remember what he called it. I'm not looking to go out here and get a cdl andwould never do anyone harm intentionally thats why I'm trying to do the right thing and get medically cleared before I do anything else. trying to be more safe than sorry for sure!!

Truckers with head injuries

I'm a disabled vet that got medically retired from the military, I'm atm getting by the VA but this sitting at the house for more than 1o years has almost drove bat sh*t crazy. I've talked with the VA and they've told me to go to the KY DMv and talk with they're medical review board about getting my CDL. I also stopped taking some of the meds that they had me on because they're restricting me from getting my CDL. I had gotten in an accident while in the miltary but that was over 20 years ago since that happened. The doc I saw today told me there was a period that I had to be off the meds in question to see if I was ok to drive. So does anyone else have an opinion or problem similar to my predicament and if so lets talk and see what we can all come up with to get over this hump ladies and gents
