Do Any Of You Get Up This Way?

I get up that way every once in a blue moon, but I seem to spend most of my time in the Midwest

Owner Operator vs Lease Operator question

double-quotes-start.png

Yes capping lease fees is low at a 1000. your correct. It's more like 1300 to 1600 a week depending on your mileage. Now it's time to get off this subject before I get yelled at! Thanks rainy!

I think some of the policies keep changing too. The lease I read when I started is different from the one I just saw recently. (The PSD contract keeps changing too). I'm nosey and ike to review things. Lol

Hahah..I get blamed for asking questions!! You answered lol.

Back to the OP question "can you buy a truck from a company not lease". I'm sure the answer is yes, but why would you unless your credit sucked? And if your credit sucks, you probably shouldn't be trying to run a company yet. And some find that appealing about leasing...cause credit is not an issue. The company is going to up that sticker price in order to make a profit. So why not walk into Peterbuilt or whatever dealership and put down a bunch of money and walk out with a brand new truck without a middle man?

This will get me busted by Brett...but in the terminal recently I heard. "I own my truck, so I can't get fired ". Yeah OK. You will still have a truck, but might not be pulling freight here for much longer. Lol. This guy totally didn't understand that as an OO you can be terminated from a company. I asked him three different ways to clarify..and he insisted.

When I asked..."So if you are drunk driving, get pulled in for a drug test and blow hot...prime can't fire you?".

My jaw dropped when he replied "well it will go on my DAC, but they can't just tell me to hit the curb". I pushed harder and asked about a rollover or jack knife. Got the same answer.

So I guess for crappy drivers OO has its benefits lol (yes that was sarcastic)

Lol, I guess technically he can't be fired, he'll just have his contract terminated.

I need clarification.. i wanna know

Don't worry about that too much. When you get your own truck you'll be able to run how you want within reason and as long as you make your pickup and delivery times. I personally try to stop with 1-1 1/2 hours left on my clock to ensure I'm not running out of time if something unexpected happens.

Concerns

When I know I can't sleep and have the 10 hours or more I talk to my family and friends for a few minutes then mess around on social media until about 8 and half hours left. Then I put my phone done and just lay there until I fall asleep

That's a bad idea right there. The light from the screen of your phone actually makes it harder for you to get to sleep. You really don't want to be looking at it before trying to sleep.

Driving with a therapy animal

Werner is another pet friendly company. I was stuck at a terminal yesterday and was talking to a driver who had a service dog on his truck with him. I didn't really all a lot of details about it, but he had one.

Headset??

I have had both the Blue Parrot and the Blue Tiger. I liked the Blue Tiger better for a couple reason. 1.) the parrot wouldnt play the music from my phone...it was talk only, no media. 2.) it wasnt as sturdy as the Blue Tiger. The Tiger fits over my ear better with a better cushion. I accidentally ripped the whole ear piece off the parrot :(

The blue parrot 450 plays music from the phone. It is also constructed more like the blue tiger than previous blue parrots. I've never used a blue tiger so I can't speak to their quality.

Automatic Tractors.

double-quotes-start.png

I have driven an automatic since upgrading, and I love it. I had an International and now am driving a Freightliner. I have never had issues backing. You just have to have an easy foot.

This. If anyone knows a way to mechanically disable creep mode from activating, please speak up. I hate it with a passion! I'd rather control my own speed (usually about 1mph if that) while I'm backing.

I drove 2 different automatic Pete's that didn't have creep mode, so I guess the best way to disable creep mode is drive a Pete, or get a manual! Lol

Headset??

I have th blue parrot 450 as well. I like out a lot. I had the 350 before but the headband broke on it. The 450's construction is a little sturdier

Automatic Tractors.

I have driven both. Personally, I don't care whether I drive a manual or automatic. They both have their upsides and downsides, but they pretty much even out. What really matters to me is if it runs, whether auto or manual.

Can someone breakdown fueling and refueling.

If you're a company driver, generally the company pays for fuel. If you're an owner op, you pay for it
