Rules and Regulations

It’s not really “new” regulations.

It’s old regulations being monitored in a new way.

“The New Way” is forcing drivers to stay honest.

It’s forcing some companies to re-think and prioritize in a way that, again, keeps them honest.

You may want to get involved with the auditors in your state and have them audit (in real life) some major and little tranportstion companies (without trying to find someone guilty) in an effort to understand what corners have been cut and why. What can we do to eliminate the need to cut that corner and to have everyone understand what changes will occur again all without reprocussions for breaking the law...

I doubt you’ll find a whole lot on paper... I mean that’s where the complaint are rising... because now it’s electronic and it’s visible when a person edits there log...

If you really want to know the rules.

Please take a look at the high road training program you will learn all the rules and regulations better than most truckers...

Then come back

Elds are causing issues (another one of those articles)

Mom said no cookies. Mom walks in, there are no cookies left. Crumbs. She knows the crumbs are cookie crumbs and they are on my shirt... but she can’t really prove it was me that ate them and it’s just speculation really... she thinks she saw crumbs from cookies but it coulda been anything I’ll be ok I’m not in trouble...

The next day...

Mom said no cookies. They sure look good. BUZZ BUZZ what the heck mom put a buzzer on the lid to warn me. :( I can get one close it and the buzzer will turn off and by the time she gets here there’s no proof it was me :) I’m not in trouble...

The next day...

Why did you put a camera there! That’s is not right! That takes away my freedom to break your rules without being caught red handed! That is not fair! Not fair at all. Totally unfair I’d rather have my birthday taken away and never see another Christmas. I don’t ever have to go to the park again just please I’m begging you take the camera and buzzer away.

Elds are causing issues (another one of those articles)

We are supposed to work to live not live to work.

But wait a second.

It’s really looking like a majority of them are spending money they don’t need to be spending due to lack of research.

There problem really sits on the fact that on paper logs for the last 40 years they’ve been running illegal and running the prices down to near free...

Now they have to run legal but can’t make money bbfollowing the rules.

I hope they go the right route.

RUN LEGAL and DONT CUT PRICES

It’s their own aftermath. They should have seen it coming.

Hard work should have never entailed running 72 Hours non-stop and fudging log books. It should have been in customer service and reliability, learning new ways to be efficient due diligence perseverance.

Never should it have been called hard work when all you did was try to fix the lies behind the paper keeping two books and just lieing lieing lieing and starting to believe their own lies.

Now they lied so much they ruined the industry. Sorry this really bothers me though.

Where I’m running right now they want you to run 23 hour days (local) go home shower and run another 23 hours. I’m not joking. I tell em their crazy. They say that’s the only way to make a living in this line of work. (Wages haven’t changed since early 1990s) So instead of saying hey we need more money and explaining why... they try to find ways to make life even harder and harder...

And Now the EDL is going to be the tell all and hopefully it will open a new opportunity here and there for the little guys once the rates start to go up.

They ask to change the law instead of more money to do the right thing...

Prepass vs Scale Sign

The whole purpose of the prepass is to bypass the scale to save time

When you get the green light or the cool calm beep that’s the color of money cha Ching keep going brother.

If it’s the red light and the sound like you got the answer wrong on the game show time to get in line.

If you get nothing at all get in line.

Green Light cool beep keep going Red Light failure beep pull in No light no beep pull in (unless scales are closed)

Flatbed companies that hire felons

Be 100% Honest when telling them what happened.

During orientation at swift there was a couple guys that had records.

One was 100% honest and was still on parole. Had to do paperwork with his p.o. and swift to make sure he was good to go. and he was hired on I remember him passing and ready to start a good life. I talked to him a couple weeks after going Solo he was still running.

The other guy. He wasnt so honest. He was arrested for shop lifting. And after the first day of orientation. He was no longer with us. He went to the school he got to even practice in the trucks and yada yada but then when we hit the orientation and the girls were running our records... He shook our hands and left.

The Smith System

Hey,

So the outfit I used to work for had a problem with the little fender benders and side swipes... That adds up after a while.

A family friend of the CEO was a trainer for ARCO (Hauling Gas) They used the Smith System. If you ever pull into one of those yards you will see signs all over the place: Get the Big Picture, Make Sure they See You... Those come from the Smith System.

Well after John came on, they reduced the little things by 90% and even reduced fuel costs by a measurable amount. (I don’t know all of the numbers)

A coupke times a year John would ride along with every driver, Observe their habits and suggest where they may be able to improve for the putpose of safety.

We utilized the Smith System. It was annoying to most guys. (Having soneone else in your truck and telling you to, slow down, check your mirrors, back off a little,) But at the end of the day. No matter how much they complained. I know they learned something. And on the days they worked (Too long) they are really tired and just want tonget home. Losing patience they then think of the days with John and it really does help. It really doesnt give you a little comfort. And It may also help you stay awake for that last 50 miles.

Most of it would be common since, but its the little things like most accidents happen within () seconds after the red light changes. So take a second. Or after () seconds your peripheral visions changes... Those things stick with you when your in your personal car or when your tired.

I think most companies use something similar to the Smith System. But for those that dont know about it I just wanted to share a link. Maybe you want to be a mentor? Maybe you want to just be a diamond driver... Maybe you just want to be safe.

So the basic keys to the System are really just what we would think as what should be normal right? and they all go hand in hand and overlap.

1. Aim high in steering. Looking ahead of you will also let you see whats close. When we are little we crawl so we look at the ground. We learn to walk and we learn to look a little further. We learn to run and ride a bike, We end up going faster. But we stop looking further ahead. Aiming high in steering is very good for your emotions.

2. Get the BIG picture. If you have a truck in front of you its hard to see whats in front of that truck. If your hammer down. Its dangerous if you cant see in front of that truck. What about behind you. Are there cars that are racing and swerving in and out changing lanes and doing high speeds? Is there a danger ahead or behind? Checking your mirrors and scanning in all directions will help you not be suprised...

3. Keep your eyes moving. Take a look around, what do you see? now stare at one thing for a minute. Maybe a personalized licence plate. you lose your peripheral vision once you try to focus on one thing.

4. Leave yourself an out. I see it all the time when your in the slow lane (not aiming high) and a car is coming on, and theres someone to your left, your hammer down and you cant speed up you cant get over so you let off but now that car coming on gets nervous and they brake you already downshifted and cant speed up even if you tried you wont outrun that car now. But if you were not hammer down to begin with maybe you could have sped up a little in the beginning to get out of the way. If there is someone passing you on the left or ridig with you. slow down and let them get ahead. then pick it back up. Aim high, when coming up to the on ramps and off ramps. look down that way to see what your future mah hold. Not pressing it all the way to the floor gives you room to speed up...

5. Make sure they see you. Truck stops parking lots... thats a good place for eye contact. But on the road try to stay out of their blind spots. Use your signal, use your lights. Dont assume others are as alert as they should be. Your indicating you will merge. But they are speeding up. Are you sure the see your intentions?

those are the basic things but there is so much to it. Statistics are awesome and amazing. I learned alot from it and wanted to pass it on to all of you.

If you have time... check it out.

For those of you that are not decided on the conpany that your going to recieve trsining from... Learning to be safe now will help you keep your career and be that Driver on the wall with his picture showing 1,000,000 miles with no collisions...

Stay safe :)
