I had this same problem when I first started, if you use your fender mirrors and make sure you can see the marking line in each one you'll be center and good to go.
Thanks for the tip! Can't wait to test it out.

My only problem is keeping my unit centered inside the lane. Any advice on how I can improve in this area? That's your only problem?? Consider yourself fortunate. The truck is big, and the lanes seem small. All the trucks are that way. You'll get used to it. Stay between the dotted lines. Relax.
Thank you.
Sometimes the best advice is reassurance; appreciate that.

Problems controlling the tractor trailer
Currently in my last couple of months of school and we've been going on road trips. I can up/downshift good, I can turn okay, check my mirrors frequently, etc
My only problem is keeping my unit centered inside the lane. Any advice on how I can improve in this area?

Depends on the ingredients but promethazine isn't tested for as far as I know.

What did you do before becoming a truck driver?
College student who had too much time on his hands
I'm still young so I didn't get roll in the mud of life as much as everyone else here.

There are companies who provide reasonable home time but the more time you spend off of tthe road then the less money you'll make.
I think if home time is that important to you then Regional or Local is better suited for you.

My family worries about me getting into the industry and I'm a young man who's proven to take care of myself on the outside and inside alike. No matter what you'll always be precious cargo to them so make it clear that this is what you want to do and eventually they'll accept it.

Tonegone I drive for Melton currently. They are a great company with a VERY supportive staff. I have felt nothing but positive things from everyone connected with Melton. Even the other drivers are very helpful and we feel as though we are a brotherhood. To correct a few points we drive kenworth t660 and 680's. They all have double bunks. There are a few freightliners with auto trans but all the rest are 10 speeds. The equipment is well maintained. The delivery schedules are based on 50 mph legal road plans and more often than not you can easily deliver early which allows you to make more money. If you are a hard worker this is a GREAT company. We have 48&53 ft flatbeds. We do haul Hazmat if you are endorsed and get 6 cpm for it. Also 6cpm for Canada runs and 8 cpm extra for oversize loads. Melton pays for showers if you don't have one on a rewards card(rare).
Thank you. You might've sealed the deal for me.
Snappy, good. Be sure to keep us updated on how it goes & any important changes between now and my potential employment. Would be appreciated.
And Ernie, we're only human. I still am appreciative of you going to the lengths you did to help a stranger answer a question. It's the thought! Don't sweat it!

Problems controlling the tractor trailer
Sorry for double posting but thanks to the advice here I've actually gotten better. I really appreciate it. It won't be too long before my cdl exam and naturally I'm nervous. Personally I believe I could use a little work on turning and downshifting a little more; other than that, I believe I should do alright hopefully.
