Let's hear it - what do you guys think about the Canadian Truckers?

I support the Canadians. I wish we could get something like that going here, but I highly doubt it because we don't come together on anything really. You ask 10 drivers what color the sky is and you get 11 answers. That said I still support what they are doing and think they have been screwed over by go fund me and judging by the pic that banks put up they are still getting screwed over by thier own government.

Starting fluid

I kind of agree with packrat here. Yes if your an O/O and running a shoestring budget then maybe that is worth the risk. But any larger company worth its salt is gonna have a national tire account n you can just call road service.

Confused about the changes taking effect Feb 7th

Thanks I guess I'll find out next year when I go to renew my license. I'm not gonna worry too much about it I was just curious in case I wanted to look for another job. Even if you don't haul hazmat regularly sometimes it's helpful just to have it.

So I should be good if I want to get it put back on my license right? I had my hazmat for the first 4 years then when I went to renew I let it lapse because I didn't want to hassle with it.

Changing trucks: The unloading, the reloading

It was great....NOT! I always hate it. Every single time the weather is not hospitable: cold, rain, hot, snow, etc.

I got the newest one on an 18 degree day with blowing snow flurries in Columbus, OH. Took about four hours to load the stuff that I'd brought to orientation. Yesterday, I loaded the second batch of gear on at White's Petro in Raphine, VA and it was raining all day and night. That took about six hours.

One more batch to go the next time I'm off for a few days.

Dang packrat I guess we can see where you got the handle from lol. It takes me about 6 hrs to swap trucks and I've had to do it 4 times in a year and a half. 2 trucks broke down and 2 got sold.

Got my first informal reprimand but not for anything driving related.

I understand why they have these systems and I would say about 80% of the time I'm ok with them and agree with it. But that other 20% just irritates me to no end. I've had the lane guidance system ping me all day today because it's picking up lines on the road from the rain. What really gets to me is these new automatics, apparently they have a GPS or something inside them that cuts the power when your almost at the top of the hill to save fuel. It sucks when your passing someone n then all of a sudden it decides its time to neutral drop n they start pulling away.

Need some advice concerning training

I agree with Rob. Even if you get accepted for the company program, you will have to work there for a year while your still paying for the private school. So you might as well finish out the private school and then figure out where you want to work.

Picking my first trucking job

double-quotes-start.png

Short answer is to take care of the home life before you go any farther. Like others have said this isn't a normal job and even if you get a local job there's no guarantee that you will see her any more than if you hadn'tgotten a local one.

I was OTR and was able to be home every other weekend with my first company. My ex wanted me home more so I got a local job. I had to work nights, so I was leaving before she got home from work and was getting home as she was leaving for work. So we still didn't see each other except for the weekend and most of those I still had to work 1 day of the weekend. So coming home for a local job was actually a negative thing.

Good to see you around, Jake Brake! Have to ask, though...

....and you did all this ...... for an EX ?!?!? confused.gif sorry.gif confused.gif

Well she wasn't an ex at the time lol.

Medical emergency

According to this new diet thing I’m trying, eating beans with your potato will help prevent the spike from the potato, but you should limit starchy foods. Supposedly the fiber in the beans slows the starch turning into sugar.

Sweet potatoes are better for your blood sugar for the same reason. Fiber.

Another way to reduce the effect of potatoes on blood sugar is to cook them, then refrigerate them over night. It turns the starches into resistant starch that doesn't get converted into sugar.
