Deaf & Trying To Get Into Trucking

Just little update on my tread dancing-dog.gifdancing-dog.gifdancing-dog.gif

After more then a year of waiting I have opened my mail yesterday and I couldn't believe what I was holding in my hand. Yeah FMCSA send me a note of granting Hearing Exemption. Means now I am able go in CDL school and drive interstate commerce smile.gif

Now I have little bit of dilemma. I have landed cool job at organics store in my city months ago, and kind of like it. But driving its what I always loved to do, and I am starting to study CDL manual again and looking get into driving in near future. My pick is SWIFT dancing-banana.gif

Hope everyone is safe on the road. Roman

Good hygiene and trucking

I am concerned about hygiene while driving OTR. I like to brush my teeth and floss twice a day. Sometimes brushing 3 times a day. I also like to shower twice a day. How do truckers do that on the road? The truckers normal routine seems to brush/floss once a day and shower once every two days. I like being clean and enjoy staying clean.

How do truckers maintain hygiene while driving so many hours?

I don't have any experience with oral hygiene as a trucker, but I would suggest something simple and effective. What I do is buy hydrogen peroxide at walmart(3% solution) and dilute it to 1.5% ( 1 part of distilled water and one part of hydrogen). After each meal simly rinse your mouth as you would do with Listerine, etc. It has whitening effect as well, now check out my TEEsmile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif TH :))

Deaf & Trying To Get Into Trucking

Hey Everyone, As always enjoying reading trough posts on this awesome Truckers Forum. Thanks for very valuable info and stories.I have been dealing with getting into trucking couple of months, precisely since Jan 2013. I have applied for hearing exemption with FMCSA. Application went thru and last month ended my 30 days public comments period on their website. Now still in process of waiting to see about final decision. After doing lot of reading, I have narrowed my interest in companies Swift and Con Way.If I get lucky and approved I wont hesitate and proceed with applications immediately smile.gif Hope everyone is safe on the road! Cheers...

Why did you become a truck driver?

Thank you for feedbacks, appreciate it. Actualy I did some research and found out FMCSA granted exemption(hearing) to 40 deaf drivers this month. Thats pretty good news though. So I have requested some info online and they will be mailing me documects to fill out for exemption next week..BINGO smile.gif I cant wait and see if I can get aprooved. I have been in touch with SWIFT and was told they are able to hire hearing impaired drivers. So thats my plan attend Phoenix,Az cdl school and get on with "paid traveler" life :)) Also one of the main reasons I would like to drive is that I was turned down on most of other jobs I applied for due to my hearing and trucking would be lifechanging for me. For now I am hanging around this fantastic website, and love CDL online traning. Excellent job BRett!! thank-you-2.gif
