I had all my beautiful, healthy, no cavity teeth pulled when I was 20. Why ?? well....I'm allergic to all the stuff they use to do dental work...and I was really really rowdy..so when I had the 2nd tooth broke off in a fight....I just told them to pull them all....I've never regretted it. but never ignore a hurting tooth !!! When teeth hurt, THEY ARE INFECTED....everytime.

Most truckers wives are so busy keeping the home fires burning, the house in repair, the kids healthy and happy...that they quickly figure out one thing...When their trucker comes home, you give them a day to decompress....sleep....eat...whatever, while you wash his clothes, pack his gear, restock his food. You learn to treat his home time like a honey moon...NEVER make plans without asking him....NEVER invite people over without asking him. And NEVER NEVER NEVER have a honey do list waiting for him. Remember...The Only Thing Tougher Than a Trucker........IS A TRUCKERS WIFE.

Jamie....I was you !!! Only I worked for a large legal state agency....and I made the big bucks. I sold my mini ranch, my horses, my farm equipment,...and everything that wouldn't fit in a 28 foot freight trailer. And I went to a small trucking school....4 day school...and bought a truck, and away I went with my husband...I was mentally burned out....it was the best thing I have ever done in my life.....Did I get rich ??? nope....lost all my savings, but ended up with a small place, room for a couple cows...and ALOT happier. Trucking freed me from so much...the almighty rat race for the dollar. I was able to see places that I never would have seen, even tho I had the money to travel, I would never have had the time. I learned what it was to run "west coast turnarounds" with the big Dogs. Our truck was no slouch...it wasn't governed and we drove it like we stole it. Bright yellow Petercar with black fenders...and chicken lights everywhere.....what a ride. If you want to feel what freedom feel like, and you are willing to work to get the chance for it....get out there and start your next adventure...life is for living.....you can't take the other crap with you when you die.....I know my granddaughter will remember riding in the "Starship" with her grandma steerin' and gearin'....and riding with her grandma on her Harley...and her soon to be on the road custom handmade trike. I'm over 60...you are never to old to dream it and make it come true. I'm gonna be really mad when I die...cuz I'll have had 20 things planned to do in the next 6 months.....

Yeah...boys will be boys.....thats why us Lady Drivers have our own forum.....we ADMIT our shortcomings, and ask for help....I guess we traded our egos in for the ability to think with just one head....( did I just say that ?????)

If our country keeps going the way its going....and the SHTF.....I'm gonna go off grid......way off grid...till the dust dies down and I see who is gonna be running our poor country...

I'll tell ya'll, and ID MTN Gal will back me up....In trucking, its a male oriented work environment....You will have to prove your worth, demand your respect, and do a better job than the man next to you EVERY DAY. Yes, trucking companies are now seeing that women make wonderful, dependable, respectable,and truthful drivers...We've come a LONG WAY baby !!!!!!

Robert, you failed to address the fact that EVERY trucking company forbids carrying a firearm. And there is no way around that. If you get caught, it goes on your DAC, and it will finish you in trucking....and thats the best part...and DOT that catches you with anything that is not on their list of "approved "firearms, will probably toss your can in the Can....

It can be rough, especially if your bf is an O/O......insurance is horrid. Will it make a difference if you get a year of OTR under your belt ??

Recruiters will tell you anything it takes to get you to sign up....period. When you say school year...do you mean like the end of school in May ?? If so, after you get thru school, get thru running with your trainer, and get your own truck you tell them you want "X" days off in May, and why....and personally, if they don't head you that way in time to make your special event...park that truck in the closest terminal, pack your stuff up, ship it home, and grab a greyhound home. There are just some things that you can't afford to miss, as a parent.... IMHO...you should do more research on a school to train at...they are far from my favorite. My brother trained there and had a very bad time.
