If you google "semi trailer rental" you'll find a number of companies in that business. Are you looking for something different, like private owners renting out their trailers?

Well, assuming the story is true, I'd say the only mistake your son made was to call in and tell them about it. As long as he didn't hit anything or get a ticket, I don't think there's any reason to volunteer that information.

Information Regarding Schneider's Background Check?
I was just asking because I was under the impression that Schneider no longer reported info to HireRIght, but maybe there's just some problem with my data.

6 large carriers in 5 years? Wow, you must have a good idea of how it all works. Was one of them Schneider? Anyway, for some reason, I've had 2 jobs and neither show up.

Information Regarding Schneider's Background Check?
This is something that has confused me for a while. I see "DAC report" mentioned as if it's some kind of official report containing all employment history for all drivers, but after looking in to it, it doesn't seem like that's the case. The DAC is something provided by a company called HireRight, but not every trucking company reports to HireRight, and there are companies other than HireRight out there that collect information and produce their own reports. I worked for Schneider for a couple of years, and about 9 months after I started I requested my report from HireRight and it had my info on it. Now when I ask HireRight they say they have no file on me, but Schneider directs employment verification requests to another company (DriverIQ), and I can get my info from them. Swift seems to refer driver employment verification requests to a place called DriverFacts, but I don't know if they have a way for a driver to request their own information.
In any case, Schneider will likely find your information, so you should be honest on the application. My impression of Schneider's hiring is that the decision to hire you or not may depend on how badly they need drivers for the position you apply to. In any case, all you can do is apply to as many places as you can find and hope for the best.

Choosing between two local companies
Do either of them involve going into or south of Boston?
Both cover full Mass, so I assume that includes Boston :-(
Yeah, unfortunately I think with some companies they get inexperienced people to go in to the city because the senior guys don't want to do it. But it might not be like that at either of the places you are looking at, I don't know. And at least you'd be paid by the hour. I had a job where I had to go in to Boston and I got paid by the mile. Over all I was paid very well so I shouldn't really have let it bother me, but that didn't give me much comfort when I had to spend an hour driving across the city knowing I wasn't getting paid any extra for the trouble.

Things Are Bad, Running Out of Time
Say what? We need to find out what happened with Eugene! :)
I don't think we were going to find out. In any case, it sounds to me like he couldn't be coached because he thought he knew how to do it already. I wish him well.

Well anyway, it sounds like you’re the guy who can sell them on the idea of giving you more time.

So How Is Your Day Going?
Well that sucks, I hope you get back on the road soon. But I've never seen a tire end up like that. It looks like something that was made to scour the highway as you drive.
