Hard work was rewarded

Thank you G-Town, Tommy Gun, Chickenman, and Big Scott. I definitely am enjoying it, the new truck smell is definitely great. It rides so smoothly and feels like I am floating around curves, I pulled over twice in the first day thinking I had a drive go down, then I realized it was the sway bar that made it feel that way. Not used to driving something that has not been broken in already. There is comfort in knowing from now on, that when I switch trucks again I will be going into a brand new truck again in a few years. My goal is to keep this truck in great shape, that when they pass this one on to a new driver, it’s going to be nice for them, where everything works and is comfortable for them as well.

Hard work was rewarded

I just wanted to say that I received a welcome surprise when I was rewarded by the company I work for with a brand new truck, no other drivers have driven it and I am the first to break it in. Its nicer and roomier than the last. The new truck is a 2019 Volvo VNL 760. It is by far the nicest.

This is not the first time I have been rewarded, I have woken up to countless thank you’s and EFS money codes sent to me. The last truck I have put on 26k miles in 60 days with the company. I have had 10 days home and look forward to putting many more safe miles on this new one. Personal goal is to try to get an oil change in 90 days. We are obviously on ELD, but if you see me on the road anyone feel free to say hello.

Bypassing weight station

I'm thinking since they didn't come after you and pull you over, you're probably ok. However, if your company mysteriously questions you about it, admit it immediately, say it was unintentional and you will NEVER do it again.

But I'm seriously thinking you got lucky and will be fine.

Good point Susan, if the company mysteriously questions you about it, admit and let them know you won’t do it again. Coming out of Texas into Oklahoma they have cameras that take pictures as you drive by, even when bypassed and they are open. I learned that driving at night, the scale was closed and a flash bulb went off, thats when i knew that some of these places record the trucks going by.

Wanting to start my trucking career.. but wanting to talk to someone where and how to get started

Welcome Steph, some companies do offer paid training and others do not. I would suggest to research online at the companies that do, and if you have any questions about certain companies ask on here. I will suggest to take company reviews that are negative with a grain of salt because most are from disgruntled drivers and I wish I would have learned that from the beginning. I am with a company that has negative reviews online and it scared me away for a long time until a buddy of mine came here and he loved it. So I gave them a chance and am averaging a touch over 3500 miles a week.

I posted a thank you to everyone because if it were not for this site, I would not be able to do what I do now, at the level I do it. This site has a wealth of information and knowledge, everyone I have encountered here is friendly and helpful. I was self taught and did it differently. I wish I knew more and even though I am an experienced driver, I always learn something new about the industry every day I am out there

To Idle Or Not To Idle

I only Idle when I have to, to reach maximum comfort during my rest periods. When I am most relaxed and comfortable I get the best rest and therefore am most alert for that day. I do not pay attention to the no idle policies unless someone specifically tells me that either not idle or leave.

Thanks to Brett and Everyone on Here

I just wanted to extend my gratitude to Brett and Every other member for their advice and sharing their knowledge and experiences. I have been driving for 4yrs and a member here for 2yrs. I don’t think I would be a top tier trucker within my company if it were not for everyone here.

It’s because of all of you and my hard work and dedication to getting freight delivered on time and safely within the guidelines of the law, that I get top pay and top miles.

I just wanted to tell you all Thank you

Older Guy Wanting To Get Into Trucking

Never to old to get into trucking, as long as you can pass the physical and obtain a CDL you are good to go.

I don’t know anything about any of the companies you had mentioned, because I don’t really look at reviews. I just do different research when looking at a company that I may want to join. I look at CSA scores, try to find out how long they have been in business, I try to do a little research on freight they haul, I don’t look at reviews because most are negative and I like to make my own judgement on a company. Most reviews are from disgruntled drivers, I also look to see how long ago the reviews were from. Sometimes things and outlooks change when either new management or ownership comes along. Thats my opinion

The Need for Speed Can Hurt You - New Article By Rainy

62mph is really no different than say 65 or 68mph just 3-5 seconds a mile faster, what that means to me is I will be pulling in behind you after you clear the gate and are done checking in, meaning I get there not too far behind you and get the extra cash in my pocket.

Great article Rainy. I wish more people out there had the same mentality, would cause a lot less headaches in shippers, receivers, truck stops. The less you hurry the better off you are. The safer you are.

Getting a load from point A-B safely and efficiently is always a priority.
