The path to experience.

Start applying everywhere. The market has dropped a bit, but there are still jobs. You might check with the temp agencies as well, they seem to be looking for drivers still. Lots of things still posted on Craigslist.

Anyone work for total transportation?

Wow. I consider insurance part of the compensation package and figured they'd have those numbers 'cause if I needed insurance, I'd be asking before deciding where to go. Some phone systems will get you a person if you enter incorrect numbers too many times. Might be worth a shot.

Have you tried asking your recruiter? They should have that info.

Cooking on the road questions

Rayzer, what does the inside of the Instant Pot lid look like? I have a Cuisinart electric pressure cooker and can't imagine trying to clean that thing out on the road. Too many fiddly bits in the lid!

Aussie driver wanting to move to USA to live and drive

From the TX DPS: Only commercial driver licenses from Canada and Mexico are recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation as having full reciprocity for driving privileges in the state of Texas.

Also: Texas also has license issuance reciprocity with France, Germany, South Korea, and Taiwan only. (for non-CDL)

It sounds like you'd have to basically take the tests and get a whole new license. If you do it in Texas, make sure you download a copy of the CDL handbook as Section 14 is not covered in Brett's High Road.

If you go to each state's DPS website and search reciprocity, it should tell you if there is any chance you'll be able to transfer a license in a different state, but I'm guessing they'll all be about like Texas.

Percentage Pay Versus Mileage Pay

double-quotes-start.png

Percentage Pay usually does NOT pay "dead head" miles, unless it is over a certain amount of miles.

Are there jobs my wife can do in the cab while I drive?

Great question! i have been thinking of jobs you can do while riding along too.. i think online stuff is the most obvious.. what about telemarketing? i know thats not a great job but its something or maybe some kind of school for computer work if not knowledgeable enough..

Too loud in a truck for telemarketing.

Freelance work based on the PC is the main thing I can think of. Graphic design, typing, taxes, whatever she can do. Theoretically I could do my current contract work while riding.

New Trucker almost

I'm wondering if there will be an issue with the fact that my passport still has my maiden name as long as I have a certified marriage license with me.
