Do I or don't I?

This site has alot of information on different companies. A good company doesn't mind you asking as many questions as you can put on your list. They won't mind giving you detailed answers. They will put everything in writing for you. I'm 58 will be 59 in December and I'm so blessed to be able to start my second career and following in my father's footsteps as an OTR driver is an amazing journey. Nervous, scared, terrified are all the feelings going through the whole process since CDL school started on May 18th. Now after researching companies for 2 years I wanted a great company whom had a lengthy orientation program that involved classroom and sending you on the road with a company driver for 1-2 weeks so you really get to know the whole process of the company. I could not find any comparison to the company ROEHL Transportation. I'm going through their orientation right now in Atlanta. Absolutely the right choice. I couldn't have picked a better company to start with. So take your time and really do your research. Good Luck!! Take a chance and go for it :)

Starting Pay For Schneider

Hello I will be getting my CDL license on 11/06/15 road test day and Schneider has already given me a conditional job offer I have applied for a region position home weekly and next Wednesday I have a big phone interview/call with the recruiter to talk about the positions and pay but I would like to know if anyone has inside knowledge of the starting pay the minimum I found on there website was $48,000 a year and then all the way to $65,000+ being that I have no experience I assume I would be starting At the lowest pay but I would like to know if the $48,000 is where I would most likely be starting out at? Thank you in advance for any and all help!!!

More on Schneider Starting out at 28 cpm + 3 cpm safety paid quarterly and then by the end of the first year you should be at 38cpm. The key word is SHOULD be!! Every driver has to prove them selves to what ever company they start with. I'm 58 years old and the minute I new what day I was finally retiring from law enforcement I started researching what company I wanted to work for. I took 2 years researching and it was worth taking that amount of time to gain the knowledge that I now have in starting my driving career.

Hi, I thought for months that Schneider was whom I was starting with but after alot of research and finally catching some of their drivers stopping at different places to eat it really changed my out look on that company. The drivers had nothing good to say about the company and nothing good about the trucks they were given to drive. I had my questions pre paired ahead of time just in case I ever caught a driver to get their feedback. Yes I to went as far as having the phone interview and got their pre hire letter offer. First off your pay is 28CPM with a 31 CPM safety bonus paid every quarter. The newbie sign on bonus is $1000 paid out over a years time so let's break down down to about $81 dollars a month so an extra $25 bucks per week. WHOOPIE!!!! You are not allowed much idle time and their trucks do not have APU's in them to give you better comfort and to run a regular mini frigerator and regular appliances to fix your meals in and a microwave. All of those comforts really matter to a driver is is going to be out at 2 weeks or more at a time. So do alot of research on company's. This site gives you alot of knowledge but you have to put in the time reading their articles and input from the very experienced drivers on this site. I find that Roehl is a great company and hires you right out of school. Of course your motor vehicle report and background check also determines if they offer you a position. Good luck on your search.

Just want to say Thank You :)

Thank god I was blessed with grants to pay for every dime of the cost for the school course.

double-quotes-end.png

Can you go in to more detail about the cost of the program and the grants that were available to cut those costs? I went to a community college myself and I feel like a lot of people are unaware of the many options available to help pay for that route.

At technical colleges that offer the CDL class which is a certificate course you go to the financial aid office and apply for aid. The Pell grant usally do not give grants for certificate courses but this your they started a new pilot program as a work study trial program and a few students were selected for it and received a $1000 and it was deposited into their checking accounts. So here in Georgia when you apply at the financial aid office you get $500 from the hope grant and $1000 strategic. Grant and if lucky the $1000 Pell grant study trial. And in another office you could apply for WIA funding they would pay any balance due after the first two grants and cover your books and give you $15 per day for gas and lunch each day you attended class. So the cost of the 10 week CDL school was a total of $1680 dollars. My grants covered every cost even though I did not get the $1000 Pell trial grant. Even at the college know one tells you about the grants that are available I was just lucky to know a friend of another lady my age that had just completed the course and she told me what I could apply for. So I hope this information helps other people wanting to enter the career. I tell everyone that I can to help others. Anymore questions I'll be glad to answer them.

Are There Any Trucker's Wives Here?

I am a trucker wife to Daniel B. the moderator on here. It's not something every woman can handle. Trucking can break your family, luckily we have stayed together and in love while he's out there. It takes a lot of trust on both people.

Olga B. Grandma Liz here, hi dear I will tell you that being married to a trucker is just like being married to a military man in the 82nd air borne infantry division. They are gone all of the time and yes you worry so much and wonder so much. You have to believe in your faith and your trust of your husband while on the road. It takes so much strength and your mind will wonder every minute he is on the road. Do not let so called friends and so called family put evil thoughts into your mind because they will try anything to put any doubt into your mind. Stay strong and believing the love between you and your man.

Just want to say Thank You :)

My father passed away 2 years ago from parkison disease. And he would have been so proud that out of 7 children, one daughter who appreciated all of the over the road memories that we made together followed in his career footsteps after raising her own two daughters and 5 grandchildren. What a blessing for my dad. I Love You Dad. No matter your bad habits!!! On your off time!!!!

Fantastic. I absolutely appreciate your words and connection to your Father. What a wonderful way to keep the connection! How beautiful. Very Very sweet!

Thank you Marcella with your input. While my father was giving was the only time he was not drinking. So I took advantage of all of his sober moments growing up when he was truly a real father figure. I loved him dearly while he was sober! Thank you for your response to my post. It means alot.

Despite the good advice I made an illogical decision.

The numbers are not for it. The logic are not for it. The advice I got here was against it. But I decided to go for the lease operator option. I know some will say a wrong choice well future will tell I'll try to keep you informed monthly how it's working.

Do not get into no lease option program with any company!!!! That is the biggest wrong move that you could ever make!!!!
