Need help!!!!

Looking to get back into OTR. Need advice from anyone out there having experience with Andrus out of St. George, Utah. My background is I'm 61, looking to drive another 5 years and then retire. I have 5 years of OTR and regional driving, split evenly between a major carrier (KLLM/FFE) as a lease o/o and a small family run operation (9 tractors) here locally in Salem/Albany, Oregon area. Not overly concerned about running tons of miles every week, (10K-12K would suffice) but more concerned about employee/employer relationships, quality of equipment, ect....Don't require lots of home time nor medical benefits, those are covered. Thanks for any help.

Newbie with a couple of questions..

Jessica, thanks for the info.....to answer your question, I'm not in the military nor part or any charity operation. I'm volunteering my services to a resistance group, one that is being directly supported by US air strikes as we speak. This group is widely recognized by our government and the "knowing" public to be our 1 and only ally in the region. This is a subject that is discussed in our House of Representatives and Senate almost daily. They are well known as being the only one's who us and the Israelis can trust in that entire region. Also, I have already gotten clearance from the US State Department and they have no problem with me doing what I'm doing. This group and several others associated with it are the only ones that have effectively pushed ISIS back, almost to the point of running them out of eastern Syria completely. But I understand your thinking.

What is your experience regarding drivers taking little or no days off? Is that something that is accepted or is there some DOT rule that prohibits it?

I'm happy to hear I wasn't crazy thinking the hotel/motel thing was a viable alternative to paying 800-1000 a month for an apartment or condo that was going to be occupied only a couple of days a month...

Btw, I saw your from Eugene.....I was there from 1992 to 2002 until I moved to Seattle....loved it and may move back into the area when i return. i had a home off Coburg and Harlow. Nice place....thanks again for the come back.

Newbie with a couple of questions..

Hey everyone. Great site. Can't believe I was this lucky to run across this. You have an unreal amount of excellent info. I am currently NOT a driver. Some personal history is in order I think, so bare with me. 55, single, no kids, just myself. I've been int he auto and power sports industry for the past 25 years, my last position being that of a general manager of a franchised power sports dealership in south Texas. Resigned my position this past April and within 2 weeks I'm headed to Syria to volunteer my services in the fight against ISIS with a Kurdish resistance group. Not exactly how long I'll be there but when I return, I'm NOT going back into any type of management position. I have decided on going to school, hopefully with Knight, getting my CDL and becoming a company driver, hopefully again with Knight. After hours upon hours of exhaustive research, I've come to the conclusion they fit my needs the best. I have a few questions.

1) Are companies, such as Knight, willing to let their drivers put in as many days as they would like?...is there any mandatory "days off" a driver is required by law, or can a person drive as many days in the month as they wish? I have no family to go home to, its just me so I'd just as soon be out on the open road driving and making money.

2) Do companies such as Knight pay on a 1099 or are they W-2 payers?

3) In my case, I will be coming back to the U.S. with no home or apartment to live in. I've liquidated almost everything I owned in preparation of going to Syria. It seems to make sense for someone in my situation, especially if companies let a driver rack up as many days he wants to, that a guy like me would be better off living out of a hotel for the few days he would have off in lieu of renting an apartment for $800.00 and only getting to spend 2 days a month in it. Do you know if this is common practice or am i just crazy?

4) With companies like Knight, once a driver has a truck assigned to him is that truck his to modify as he sees fit, such as bedding, entertainment, personal accouterments, such as a refrig, microwave, ect.???? Or does the truck get driven by someone else if that driver takes a day or 3 off ???

These are just of the few questions I have, but I cut it short as I know how annoying long-winded people can get....but I'll post more later when I think of them....

Thanks for being here and thank you for any help you can toss my way. I really do appreciate all you guys do here.
