Suburban in Romulus, Mi

So I'm checking into my hotel Monday to attend Suburban Truck Driving school in Romulus, No through Driver Solutions who is hooking me up with PAM trucking. My nerves have been alright for the last 3 weeks (when I originally got my date) but they caught up with me this morning. Has anyone done their training here? Or on a very long shot is anyone on here going to be there with me? It would be nice to have some insight into this particular place and even better to have a carpool/ study buddy before I go. Given I was told only about 7 people go per week it's kind of a long shot, but being the best trucking forum around I figured it would be worth a shot.

You're all awesome and I look forward to joining the ranks very soon!

What do you eat while on the road? Is it possible to pre-pack meals?

I'm starting training for PAM in a couple weeks. From what I have seen there are regulations for some sizes/stowing kind of things and the hotplates are sometimes an issue, but most places encourage refrigerators and microwaves from what I have seen. Definitely ask a recruiter or Google when you have a specific company in mind if you want to pre-gather your equipment.

Listen to the rpms, if you can know when your automatic should shift, you will know when to shift your rig.

I think the theory would be good to learn, listening to the rpms and the timing of the shifting of an automatic even. It is harder to break a habit than to make a new one, so if you get used to driving a manual, double clutching might be easier to understand but difficult to actually do. It is completely up to you though. Familiarity is always good.

Sounds like a smart approach. As far as driving a manual... I don't think it will really help. Double clutching changes EVERYRHING! I can drive a manual and aside from moving trucks have driven son of the biggest trucks you don't need a cdl for. I'm trying to forget what I know lol so that is totally up too you. https://youtu.be/DGYuONwK7Nc

Lol the longer you have to research the better off you will be. I was pressed for time (and money lol) so I'm hoping I did enough. Hope everything works out!

Thank you! And good luck! If you have any other questions, don't hesitate, I've come across a lot of resources in my searching and I'm happy to help (means more ladies on the road. I still believe in Girl Power =D). Best of luck!

Lady drivers and photographing the life

Well Sarah, I'm not quite a female trucker yet, scheduled start training Oct. 13. I was planning on documenting like this anyway, assuming all goes well, and it might be fun to see what you've got so far and how different things are now. Not sure where I'm going to be, but I'll be driving for PAM.

Hair Care On The Road

Nope. Lol. I color and my hair is Long. I like it long. If you can only drive 14 or so hours a day, that'll leave me time once every month or two to color it. Has to be some way to work it out! I intend to find it!
