Thanks everyone! I started trucking school yesterday. 10 hours a day. Kinda boring right now because they are going over the knowledge on how to get your permit and I already got mine. Can't wait to get in the truck and start learning on how to shift and do the maneuverability. Kinda of nervous on learning all that.

Change if Plan

I got the wioa grant through the state. If you can get accepted for that they will pay your whole tuition and plus give you gas money to drive back and fourth. I got it because I was laidoff, but people get it for alot of other reasons. Like if you make bellow a certain amount, laid off and some other reasons. Just look up the wioa grant for your state and it will tell you where to go, where to apply, the process, and who is accepted. Good luck

I passed my cdl learners permit. I would like to thank this website for all the info I received and to all the others post. With the help from everyone's post and this websites info I was able to pass my general knowledge, combinations, triple/doubles, tanker, air brakes, and hazmat on the first try. I even proved a question on the Ohio's permit test to be wrong. Now off to cdl school tomorrow. I will be attending All State Career's 4 week program. I plan on writing a diary and posting it on the other forum to help others that may be considering All State Career. I chose all state over company cdl because of the wioa grant approves them. If I didn't get accepted for the wioa grant I was going to do the company cdl but now that I got approved I figured it's better to have a clear and free cdl over one that locks you into a contract. Plus around my area if you have your cdl there is endless routes you can go. The gas and oil industry is huge in this area and is always looking for cdl drivers, we also have a bunch of coal mines, and local business's that are always looking for cdl drivers (nickles bakery, United dairy (etc). Like I said before thanks to everyone on this website and this websites info that has me on my way to a new career.

Questions about this new career

I passed my DOT physical today and wioa grant is going to pay for my schooling. I start school February 8th at all state career school in wheeling wv. A couple questions. Anyone hear about this school? After school does anyone have any recommendations of any companies that hire new CDL class A graduates?

Questions from a newbie

Hello my name is Noah and tomorrow I have my interview for the wia grant. I'm hoping to go to school at the local allstate trucking academy by my house. I have my permit and medical card already from when my work was going to pay for us to get our cdl but they then laid us off. I guess allstate makes you retake the medical card which isnt a big deal. If I don't get the wia grant I'm planning on doing a company sponsored training. When the counselor called me about the interview for the wia grant it sounded promising because im laid off and before that i was on injury relieved and i was underemployed. I was in the oil and gas industry but with this last lay off I need to find a job that is more steady for my family and I.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best place to start working after my schooling if I get my wia grant? If I don't get my wia grant anyone have any recommendations on the best sponsored companies? Does anyone know how the wia grant works? Like i said I am unemployed and on government assistant now because im out of work and there is no jobs in my area besides truck driving. Any advise for a new truck driving looking to get into the trucking industry?

Thank you Noah
