Hey Val - congrats! I just finished my second day of school too. I'm from Flint, MI too but I'm attending school at Roehl in Appleton, WI. It's great here too! Maybe we'll cross paths someday out on the open road. Wishing you the best!

Heading to CDL school at Roehl - March 14th...

Hello all! My name is Scott and I joined here a little over a month ago. I have been reading & absorbing all I can as I prepare to change careers and become a professional truck driver (finally)! I begin my CDL school and new career at Roehl on March 14th in Appleton, WI.

I have always been drawn to trucking and the industry. I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan [GO BLUE!] in business/accounting/finance. From 1997 through 2002 I was a logistics manager and handled the safety department where I was employed. I really wanted to drive back then but didn't have a CDL and due to financial obligations, wasn't able to pursue a CDL at the time. Then, I had an opportunity to pick up some contracts for local delivery routes using vans/cube vans. I operated these routes for a 9 years and did well. I sold the van business in 2011 and walked away from it. From then through January 2016 I was a senior accountant at a marketing & fulfillment firm, sitting at a desk once again for the next 5 years. While I liked (most) of my co-workers, I was getting tired of essentially babysitting grown adults. I realized that now was a good time and that I was in a good position in my life to pursue trucking.

My wife and I have been married for 16 years and have two sons - 13 and 7 years old. My wife has a good job, the kids are at good ages and all are supporting my choice to pursue this crazy career change! I'm ready to do this and cannot wait to get started. This site has been a huge help and I want to thank everyone that has shared their experiences from this industry. I look forward to being a part of this community and site.

Thanks! Scott
