Looks like I am going to be a Swiftie!!!!!

Victor-- They told me to plan on 5wks Training, afted Orientation. Recruiter said Mentors don't take Home Time, so we won't be stuck in a motel for 2 days. Or if they do, Swift pays for our lodging.

G.Town, Errol, et al-- How do we spend, or what do we do, for 34hr reset? Sit in our bunks? Eeeek!

Don-- I got my CDL over a year ago, failed to find any local work, and only Swift and US Xpress would hire and train me. I really burned myself by waiting so long, and got really depressed as I crossed off company after company. Not trying to bring you down! Just my own experience...

KaTow, No problem & I understand! I learned some from this site and when I was reviewing SCHNEIDER, if I recall right the site said of 6 months has passed since getting the CDL then will require training/schooling. No biggie for me. Since I am single & do not care of gone most of the time "OTR" sure local will be nice, but as I have read on this site, get the One year OTR experience then it can be easier to get what you want. When my Mom had her stroke I held off applying to be close by as needed. One company I asked if I can be home by such a date, they could not promise that as I would be in "training" After I attend My Mom's memorial service on April 1st then the following week I will apply to a few companies. I want a "big" company as they have the variety of loads. Glad your trucking soon!

Thanks, Don

Don, you are feeling a sudden compulsion for blue trucks with orange writing on the side, lol. Seriously though, shoot my company an App and see what they say. Couldn't hurt to get as many prehires on the table as you can to choose from.

Btw, I drive for H.O. Wolding.

LOL Funny as it made me recall my High school colors was blue and orange! I did inquire about one company, they told me to wait because could not get me home for my Mom's memorial service on April 1st. I will check out the company you work for and if I go for it, I will use your name if it helps as a bonus?

I'm a Knight driver and one piece of advice I can give you about working for swift is, pay no attention to the haters.

You'll likely encounter a lot of people downing swift, name calling, insults, etc... just disregard all that nonsense. Swift is a fine company and they do a lot of work, it's just you have a lot of people who think it's funny to put down other companies because they are considered a "starter company".

Follow the advice of these swifties here, and you'll be in good hands.

Congrats and good luck!

Sambo11513 Your right as I have heard about negative reviews about swift also and from being a member of this site I learned that I cannot trust some comments I read on sites like "Indeed" , "Glassdoor" and "YouTube". I had my CDL-A for a while now since I graduated from the school but had to hold off applying to companies for family reasons & will be able to apply in April. How do you like working for Knight? When I was in school I did a class report on Knight. I am still reviewing companies. Thanks

Podcast 10: Terminal Rats Are Derailing Trucking Careers

Love this site, and glad to know about terminal rats, so when I do finally get into trucking, I can turn off my hearing aids if I come across any of the "Rats"

I got my CDL-A from school already . Which company gives the best/extensive otr training?

Thank you and I agree about wishing I had more when I "solo out" is why I want "more training" not a ****y guy here, wants to be safe!

I believe that they will all give you "good training." It's in their best interest to do so. It's more about getting a trainer at the company you choose, that is "good." Speaking from my experience at Prime, you will be on the road for 40k miles. That's YOUR drive time, not the trucks. That 40k miles is just a base. If the trainer says you're not ready, or if you have an accident of some sort, you'll be on the truck for an additional 10k miles or more.

This may seem excessive, but when you solo out, you'll wish you had more.

For personal family reasons I was not able to apply for a trucking job right after school but will soon. I tried to recall which company gave a very good OTR training not just a quickie as there is much to learn as I know the company wants to train in there own ways. I forgot one name, but I read they also trained mountain driving & etc. I am not concerned about "Home time" as I plan to be gone a lot. Thank you for help or advice! Don

Do you have any verifiable Class A experience in the past 5 years?

Thank you for the quick reply, looking forward to be on the road soon

Don, you should put zero. You're a total noob, embrace it! They're going to train you and teach you the way they want things done. They are accustomed to this, and it is no big deal for you to go into this as a complete greenhorn.

Hi All, this may sound like a stupid question, filling out the Trucking Truth multiple job hire form and since I finished six month of CDL A schooling and graduated. Do I put zero experience as I have not gotten the experience from Trucking company OTR but some on the road with a teacher in school. My choices to fill in the box, is Zero, or 1 to 6 months exp. ? Thank you

I need to decide between Prime, Schneider or Maverick

A driver for 3 years at Schneider told me he quit to work for another company because he is getting less miles to run because he makes more per mile versus his 1st year. Do you notice this at all in your times with the company? Thank you

Okay, I looked at positions with different companies. Schneider's positions are listed @ Schneiderjobs.com. I asked the recruiters at different companies for realistic first year earnings. I finally settled on Schneider Van Truckload because the position most closely matched what I wanted.

After being with Schneider for two years now, I can still say that what the recruiter promised is what I got. No excuses, just promises fulfilled.

Please, please, please make sure you can verify what recruiters promise you.

I hope this helps.

Hi Steve. Thank you for your reply. I will definitely keep that in mind and try to verify what I am told by the recruiters.

I need to decide between Prime, Schneider or Maverick

I am also looking at some of those trucking companies, I talked to a driver from Schneider, he worked there for 3 years, told me a great place to work at to get experience but the reason why he is leaving for Marten trucking is because the more he got paid per miles the less miles they gave him to run. Said he would have worked one year then left for another company. Anyone else encounter this at any company? Thanks
