AI is on the way!

I've yet to see it say anything outright wrong yet.

I just found a wrong answer.

Sample question:

Which is better, recaps or resets?

Part of the answer says this:

A reset, also known as a "34-hour restart," is a consecutive 34-hour break that includes two periods from 1:00 am to 5:00 am.

The 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. requirement was done away with years ago.

Not a big deal, but something to look into.

AI is on the way!

I've been pondering this for a couple days now. I like the idea of AI scouring the web, doing the necessary research to return positive, accurate results that would otherwise be lost or forgotten. It's use can be far-reaching and beneficial. I get that. For the most part, I agree that AI, and it's integration into our lives is inevitable. Adapt or die, as they say.

*Donning my tinfoil hat...

The problem I have is with this:

One thing I'm doing is using AI to convert the user's question into a more advanced and detailed question (or series of questions) that will produce better results.

What attracted me to this website from the start was the genuineness and authenticity of the users. Good or bad, we knew who we were dealing with. It was real. Unless I'm misinterpreting this, now you're talking about doing away with, or at least altering the human element, with it's own set of unique characteristics, and replacing it with your own (or AI's own) Utopian version of how information should be shared. In this setting, AI that is used to help "produce better results" will only serve to increase our reliance upon it, I'm afraid.

The implementation of AI into these very real questions and conversations is perhaps less of a commentary on the effectiveness of AI, and more of a lament of the collective lack of critical thinking in our society today. Just do what the Telescreen tells you to do.

Call me old fashioned, but I'm not a fan of altering or editing questions to better tailor a response that fits a narrative. I like talking to real people, and I still believe in individuality. The instant I think I'm talking to a robot directing me to a canned message, I'm out.

On that, I guess I would just have to see how it played out. I'll be happy to join the sample pool. Hopefully, my concerns will be unwarranted.

How was your 2023?

I seem to think I've been there, but I'm just not sure. WM has many satellite facilities scattered all over the place. Some are consolidation centers, some are dedicated to online sales, some are fulfillment centers (and I don't even know what the heck that means). I frequent these types of places with not even a clue as to what I'm picking up. Actually, I'm usually dropping off at these places and hooking an empty otw out.

To answer your question, those places aren't usually where pf drivers will be based. You're more likely to be based out of a regional DC. But I don't know what I don't know. Maybe there's something I'm not aware of.

For the most recent hiring info in your area, go to drive4walmart.com and navigate your way to the postings.

Once you come over to our side, you'll never go back. Hit me up.

This comment is aimed mainly at Turtle and Rob T.

I've said before that while hard work is admirable and necessary in order to prove yourself, it shouldn't end there. It doesn't always have to be about working harder, especially once valuable experience is gained. It can also be about recognizing an opportunity and positioning yourself to capitalize on it.

All you drivers should keep rocking it, doing what you do. But keep an eye out for a chance to improve your position, and when it comes ask yourself "Why not me?" I believe I can speak for Rob T. as well when I say we took that chance. We've also been at this game for a little while now. It takes time.

As for Walmart, yes they are still in a nationwide push to increase the private fleet. My DC alone still wants upwards of 50ish additional drivers. But some DC's are at capacity, and are not hiring at this time. It depends on where you're located.

You may be eligible BK, but I don't want to hijack this thread further. Email me if you want more specifics.

Rob T., our numbers are remarkably similar. The similarity isn't surprising, seeing we do pretty much the same thing. The biggest difference I see is that you drive fewer miles, but make more stops.

My total miles for the year were 107,260. And I probably average 15-20 stops per week. Most weeks are around 55 hours logged, with some of that being me just burning off hours.

I had 6 weeks of PTO, 3 paid bereavement days, and a few unpaid days off. My ADP (average days pay) floats between $460 and $480, depending on how hard I worked the previous 3 months.

I leave money on the table, most often on my go home day when I knock off several hours early. Also, during the busy months of the year we have the option of working extra routes, and they come with a $275 weekly bonus in addition to the extra miles and activity pay. I always turn that down though, preferring instead to enjoy my time at home.

Easy work, nothing extra, and I had about an 8k bump up from last year. Zero complaints.

Kudos to all for a solid year in these troubling times!

On a TURTLE hunt!

Kinda hard to sneak up on this ol wiley Turtle.

I've been off for the past few days and hunkered down in the woods. I'll roll back in the DC between 5- 5:30 tomorrow morning. Should I be nervous?

Just checking in..... It's been awhile 2.5 years as a matter of fact.

Hey long time no see Chris. Glad to hear things are going well for you. Our paths cross often, both previously in Ft.. Drum and now in the Utica area. I'm through there all the time. But it isn't likely I'll run into you now that you've crossed over to the dark side.

Let's talk Christmas plans!

Well, the wife and I will likely spend a quiet Christmas alone. It'll be the first Christmas in our new cabin that I've been hand-building over the past three and a half years. It's been a long held dream of ours to have a little nest in the middle of our acreage, and we finally got there.

My son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, who live in my original house on the property, will be going to her family's house in Illinois for Christmas this year. So we'll sadly be apart from them, a first. But I have the great fortune of living only a thousand feet or so through the woods away from them, making them a part of our daily lives. That's the best present of all.

Keeping in tradition, we and the rest of the family will gather at my nephew's house on Christmas Eve for feasting, fun, and frolic. That's typically a marathon of good cheer for the evening.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
