Driving at night

I use yellow sunglasses at night and its amazing the difference it makes. Get a cheap pair and try them out. If it helps then drop some dough on a nice pair.

I bought one of those flip down things for my car visor that has a darker grey one for day driving and a yellow one for night or rain. Was skeptical until I used it during the rain and could deffinately se better with the yellow tint than without. Never drive my car without it now.

Just another low bridge strike after following GPS

Oh, just wanted to add I saw a trucker once creep up real slow to a bridge marked 13'-3", bump his truck against it. Then instead of backing up gunned it until the truck got stuck under it. Don't know if he thought he could squeeze the truck under it or if he just missed reverse or thught he was hitting the breaks, but after 3 feet of trailer peeled back it finally stopped.

Just another low bridge strike after following GPS

Ya know, in thinking about it I'm not sure I can recall ever talking to a driver that hit a low bridge which was clearly marked like that. How does that happen? I seriously do not understand it. When you're going under bridges that are 14-15 feet tall all day on the Interstates it should be painfully obvious when you see a 12 foot bridge that it's waaaaaay lower than any other bridges you've ever gone under. Waaaaaay lower.

But then it's clearly marked right there in plain sight with a bright yellow sign.

It's completely baffling. If a person can't figure out the right way to handle something so simple, how are they even alive? How do they figure out how to use a fork to eat? How to they figure out how to lift a toilet seat to use the restroom? If you can't understand how not to hit a well marked low bridge I don't know what you can figure out.

Probably got lost in the driving and forgot all about driving a truck. That old car mentality took over in which you never even look at such things. Im just preparing for school and cant see that ever happening to me (knock on wood) but with the way people drive, I can certainly see it happening to some.

Nervous Excitement

Just waiting on the trucking company to give the go ahead and will be heading to Springfield, MO myself. Hopefully within the next few weeks. By then you shouldn't suck so bad, and hopefully take pitty on the new newbie and not laugh quite so hard :)

Is trucking worth it anymore?

First off I'd just like to say I am a CAD Draftsman and certainly make more money than I will driving trucks. So the money is not my main consideration - although it is of course important. In a sense this is actually a downward carrer move for me.

That being said I love driving and have always wanted to drive trucks. So for me this is more of a "want to" thing than a "need to" thing. After sitting behind a desk half my life I have decided its time to get out and see the world.

I'll be starting my CDL training in a few weeks. Have found this site to be extremely helpful in preparing me for what to expect not only on the road but as I prepare for the tests themselves.

So is it still worth it? I guess that depends on what one wants out of life. But after half a lifetime of 9-5 I'm actually looking forward to a new job for the first time in I don't know how many years.

Wish me the best.
