Where we live you take them all at once and whichever you pass you pass, whichever you fail you take again. He has struggled to sit down and take all 3 in one sitting. But he's passed 2 of them now so he has to take one more. He can read fine he just doesn't do well in testing situations. He also got a little too confident the first time around and didn't read the manual, he thought he knew the info without which was his mistake and he learned his lesson.

Where I live, you must take and pass the general knowledge exam before they'll allow you to take combination, air brakes, or any endorsements.

I'm not sure if your husband has test anxiety or simply doesn't read very well or what the problem is, if he knows the material as you say he does. Why isn't he posting on here?

Anyways, during CDL school as well as company orientation, there was sooo much reading and studying required. I certainly hope this won't be a problem. Even daily just doing my job as a driver, I'm required to read directions, instructions, maps, do route planning, road signs, detours, etc,

I hope he does well, but I really don't understand all the difficulty.

My poor husband has had a hell of a time passing his cdl and endorsement tests. But even though he still has to pass his general knowledge one he passed his endorsements! They just changed to the computer system here which allows him to listen to the questions and is easier for him. He's struggled sitting and taking all 3 tests at one time so now he has just one left to do and I feel like he will have much better luck this time! He may have struggled with them but he's not giving up so I'm proud of him for that! He really wants a better career so I can continue to stay home with our kids and we won't have to struggle anymore.

Hubby just failed his permit test for the second time and u don't know who's more frustrated him or I. He knows the info but the test question wording keeps messing him up. He just went back to try again. He already has a company lined up but needs to pass this test!

I tried getting him to use the program off of here but he reads slowly and gets distracted so it wasn't working for him. He found another program that is video based that he seems to be retaining the info from pretty well. I've already made him a deal to make all his favorite snacks in exchange for a study binge this weekend!

If he's testing next week, I would spend the next three days doing nothing but the HRTP on this website. That's how I passed my permit test.

So my husband has decided on Celadon for school! They only contract you for a year so he wants to get back local as soon as he can. His first attempt taking the permit test didn't go so well but he's retaking it next week and has found some videos to help teach him the information for the written test. I'm thankful he found a method that works for him because reading it just wasn't! Choosing the school might be a small step but it's still one step closer to our better life!

I'm looking for advice on how to manage home life and work life when being a new (OTR) driver? My definitely having reservations about leaving behind his wife and infant son, but mostly keeping a good relationship with the baby while working. I know this is a good opportunity to support our family and make our life better in the long run so I'd like some advice on how to best keep the balance from anyone who's had to do it.

We are a one income household and my husband is planning on leaving for cdl school in the next month. We know his first 3-4 weeks won't be paid and know the numbers the recruiter has told us but I'd like to have a better grasp on what kind of pay to expect and if we are getting in over our heads financially. I know there is the potential of making good money in trucking and he's really trying to break out of the $15/hr cap he's hit being a laborer.

Started using it (but mainly just going through the review questions) and doing fine. I've also been doing a ton of state specific cdl practice tests (also got the app through here) and I've been doing well. Just don't want to be over confident about being able to pass.

How difficult did you find the test to be? How much prep did you do before hand? I've heard both sides of the coin with this one.

Not a good fit for us because he needs to be able to earn money at the same time. Our local programs don't work with working hours too

neither go apply for a wia grant at your local state job center and they will pay for his cdl at a truck school and this way your not obligated to any company.

My husband got pre-approved at 2 schools and now needs to decide which one to go to. The choice is between Celadon and Swift (yes I know both are big companies but he had his license suspended due to unanswered tickets for about 10 years so the fact that they will even take him is huge) The main difference I see is the length between contracts. Anyone have any insights or opinions? Thanks in advance!
