YRC in more trouble

This sounds like a planned event to force the unions into striking so that Yellow can shut down and avoid the WARN Act violation from mass layoffs.

What CDL training program has the lowest standards for candidates?

I am thinking this is a BS posting. Majority of states will charge you with reckless driving for going 25mph over the posted speed limit, and add the "super speeder" notation increasing your fines and putting you at serious risk of jail time. The 119 in a 55 is 60mph over the limit. In South Carolina that by definition is reckless driving and is a criminal charge. It would also have your license suspended for 30+ days. Jail time of 30 days. Around $500 in fines. If you received two reckless driving convictions in such a short time your license would be automatically suspended for an additional 90 days.

If this is a serious post, do the world a favor and don't get into a commercial driving profession.

O/O with J.B.Hunt

I've been seeing a LOT of trucks pulling 'Super Ego' trailers in the past couple years. I think they are growing to be something along the same lines as Landstar.

Stay away from super ego holding. It is a scam company that has hundreds of complaints with the BBB in just the last 4 month. There is one class action lawsuit on them at this time for wage theft.

Point me in the right direction

Have you tried Werner yet? They have a large Home Depot account and that's not bad for a beginning driver. Its where I started and ran for one year. The have hubs in Columbia and Savannah. Its run durring the week and off on weekends regional job. You take loads to all the Home Depot stores in the area. Some are drop loads, double drops, and some are live unloads. Backhauls are usually from local vendors to take back to the major distribution centers. The stores are not super hard and they will improve your backing skills.

Altitude and Diesel engine power

I went to Albuquerque today and while climbing the grades, my truck seemed to be laboring. Does a Diesel engine lose some power at higher altitudes?

I know many of you drive the Rocky Mountain passes, so I figured I could find out the answer to this question.

Pulling a heavy load up those grades will cause the truck to do a regen more often and you might have been pulling a steep hill at the exact same time the computer told your truck it needed to run a regen cycle.

Extended frame tractors

They ride better in the cab. They look cool to some. And more of a challenge to back up in smaller lots and tight Flying J/Pilot truck stops.

Driver with multiple preventables in first few months but clean record recently

I agree with the others, Keep working on being a productive safe driver. Stay with WE. Because freight is down with every company. Companies that are recruiting can be very picky. My employer requires 2 years minimum experience, 5 years accident free, no more then 3 minor violations in last 10 years, no speeding tickets 9mph and over.

What Questions Should I Ask During An Interview?

When talking to companies, especially the smaller companies, ask about their freight lanes. How much broker freight do they carry? Some broker freight is not bad, but too much is a liability in a poor economy. Do they run all 48? Or regional? And if they go to NYC and is it forced dispatch. Do they have any partnerships with other companies to help move freight.

CB radio advice

Great advice. I’d also like to chime in on the advice to take it to a cb shop. The radio isn’t the issue, it’s the coax and possibly the antenna but even stock antennas will work fine so long as they’re set up properly. The antenna and coax get tuned to the truck, if it’s off, it won’t matter what radio is in it, it’ll act up. The SWR meter on the radio is pretty unreliable and the external is preferred to get an accurate reading.

Every good CB shop has the right equipment and skill to help troubleshoot the high swr problem you are having. We know its not the radio thats causing the high swr. It could be a bad cable, or a connection point, or a grounding issue, or even a bad antenna. By taking it to a shop they might be able to diagnose it. I was having issues and for me it was my cable and antenna length.
