JIM PALMER TRUCKING

It was interesting too that I picked this company because it's smaller and looks like with the longer training I will be better prepared for going solo. And after talking with recruiter how bigger companies are different and I've seen some that use selling points like TV's and direct tv with NFL ticket in their trucks, I find out that JP also gives this to their drivers, which was cool because I wasn't looking for that as a selling point, but is just a nice benefit on top of all the other things that have driven me towards them.

JIM PALMER TRUCKING

Hi, my name is Jason and am also looking to get into trucking. I called Roadmaster first but they gave me a weird feeling. Recruiter was too pitchy. Am in process with Jim Palmer recruiter, just waiting for my current and past employer to answer their phone calls for employment verification. Have a date set for me to start their CDL program. At first I thought I'd be that guy they wouldnt call back because my first talk with them the recruiter actually tried talking me out of trucking because I have kids and a wife. But told me to call him back the next day after speaking more with my wife about it. I used to be in Marines so my wife and I have experienced plenty of time apart in those years. Not sure what it will actually feel like with kids in the picture now. But anyways, they've been in contact with me everyday since I called him back and applied. My advice if no one is calling back, just make sure you show you want it because filling out that application and going through the interviews with them, it looks like I'm on my way into this. And my recruiter has made me feel really good about my decision. Guy at Roadmaster said they are Harvard of trucking schools but told me I shouldn't be picky about the first company I work with. But then JP recruiter made a good point that if they are Harvard of trucking schools then they should care about company you go with. "You think Harvard wants their graduates working at McDonald's?" He said. Good point.

Also want to point out that this recruiter told me to call him back after initial conversation, whether I wanted to go with them or not, and he said if I called back and didnt feel like they were gonna be a good fit, that he would be more than happy to give me advice on other bigger companies to consider. So not sure if he gets anything out of pointing people into another direction, but just thought that it was cool they seem to be in the interest of not only themselves but you as a person.
