My satanic fifth wheel

JYD

I, too, have issues with my fifth wheel releasing. Also a 19 KW. That switch you located behind the Qualcomm with the red cover switch... I can lift the red cover, however, above and below thay cover are what look to be 5th wheel slide pics. That seems odd to me. Why a cover with a button below if they do the same thing? Or do they? confused.gif

The Road Less Traveled; Governed Truck Speed

I'd wanted to contribute in this thread a few days ago, but haven't had the time.. don't really even now, but... As a driver who has driven trucks governed at 62, 65,68, and now 75mph, i haven proven to myself that 66+ miles an hour keeps you in the flow of traffic, if not changing lanes constantly to pass slower moving vehicles. Both are hazardous for trucks, and unless I'm on wide open roads in daylight and calm weather, I'm usually tagging behind the flow of traffic so I can maintain my cushion. Sometimes i feel that because my truck is governed so high, my dispatchers want me to cover more miles each day; however, my response to that is very basic and very adamant: i will go as fast as i safely can.

Keep on keepin on y'all!!

Wind & Carelessness

Not yet, PackRat, but i will when i shut down tonight. I was thinking after i made that comment, that there were warnings of severe storms a bit south of me. Wasn't trying to say it didn't happen, just that i was in that area last night. Still amazes me how weather can be soooo different just a few miles away lol.

Thanks, Noob! I feel a little better not being the only one lol. I'm wondering if it's an air ride thing maybe? All i do know, is if i try to accelerate, the left side of my truck feels like it's lifting and each gust is pushing me strongly enough my left arm aches, and i am well used to winds of this velocity. confused.gif

Wind & Carelessness

There were some videos on CDLLife of trucks near Amarillo, TX yesterday getting blown around and two that overturned. Sustained winds were reported at 64 mph, gusting to 80 mph plus. No truck should be on the road with those conditions.

That's odd, cuz i spent my 10 in the petro in Amarillo. I must have slept hard lol. There were winds sure, but only like 17mph or so.

Anyway, i have a question for kenworth drivers, or anyone familiar with newer ones... I'm fighting 25-35mph winds, gusts to 45, but I'm loaded +44 thou. I don't understand why I'm having to fight so hard to stay off the shoulder with every gust and truck that blows by. I'm lucky if i do 55mph, more like 50-53. Is it because it's pretty much a cross wind, or is it this truck? The 17 Volvo i had last liked to lean with the wind, but i wouldn't fight to remain on the road. A lighter load and i wouldn't be so concerned, I'd just be going much, much slower, if not off the road all together.

Putting the landing gear down adds more stability too.

Leave marker lights on?

Personally, i appreciate when drivers have their marker lights on cuz it helps me see the corners of their equipment, but then i have difficulty with seeing in the dark lol.

Yes, as long as your apu is on, or at least in standby, it'll kick on when battery gets to programmed voltage.. for example, the apu in my last truck, a Volvo, would kick on at 12.6. There's an on/ off button (mine is on my bunk heater panel), that when turned on will display the current battery voltage for your viewing pleasure lol... it also kicks on the inverter in many setups, which supplies power to extras like wall outlets, microwaves, tvs, etc..

Did i explain this correctly, guys?
