Looking to get back in the seat after a LONG time off

Hi brian, what type of position are you looking for, or not looking for?

Are you looking for a position that gets you home daily, weekly..?

Is driving over the road an option? Are you willing to drive over the road in order to get your foot in the door and gain experience? Driving over the road might be the quickest way to gain experience, which could open more options for you in the future. Not only with schneider but with other companies as well.

If you don't mind listing what you're willing to do or not willing to do, it will help us provide you more valuable feedback.

Driving a CAR is weird!!!

Hey, thanks for asking, Bruce. I'm glad to hear you're so well prepared for your upcoming medical leave. Good thinking ahead!

I had hoped to buy a house before the end of this year. I was really close to my goal of $100,000 down payment.

But life had other plans. I had to help my younger sister out in an emergency, and gave her $20,000 to help her get a new car. My brother had some major issues with his teeth and I gave him $10,000 for dental work.

I didn't mind though because for years I was the black sheep, the deadbeat, who always relied on my siblings to help me out. So the scales have been balanced in my opinion. It was my brother after all whom I stayed with during home time, rent-free, who was the biggest reason I'd been able to save so much money in the first place. I'll just have to wait a little longer to get a house.

Still driving for Barr-Nunn and business has been picking up over the past several months. 3 months ago we had just under 300 drivers and now we have over 450.

Oh, and I applied to Walmart in April...DENIED!!! I'm not going to lie, that was very discouraging. I will try again at some point.

I hope all goes well with your surgery, Bruce.

You may have mentioned it in an earlier post - and if you did I apologize since I haven't checked in for a while - but, how long do you expect it to be before you can drive a truck again?

Are you getting paid for medical leave?

Prime Macro 27 City Codes?

Hmmm..? I don't remember using city codes while at Prime. For what reason do you need city codes? Is it bc you want to enter the code into your QC's navigation?

Why I quit Prime's TNT Program

Ok. I see he was completely quoting another post. It was hard to tell what was a quote and what was his comment as he mixed his comments into the quotes.

Yep. Hard to read between the quotes sometimes.

Why I quit Prime's TNT Program

Hey Chief, the original poster was training as a "unicorn".

Santoy, I would follow Karsey's advice:

You can talk to your fleet manager or Chris Martin who is in charge of TNT training.

Hit me up at truckingalongfun@gmail.com

The driving only at night part is not relevant. But the fact that you are not allowed to back or do a thorough pre trip are major issues. Prime does not want an undertrained, potentially dangerous driver on the road in one there trucks. Once you explain the situation (focusing on the safety issues) Prime should be willing to pair you with a more competent trainer.

If you are concerned about being used by your trainer to make money, try asking to train with a company driver if that is an option.

Really slow right now

On the first of this year my company switched all regional drivers to CPM (they did let us know several weeks in advance). I was getting a nice flat rate per day prior to the switch and loving it.

CPM is not so good. My rate is .70CPM which is great, but the total miles are crappy. I'm making close to $500 less PER WEEK since the new year started.

I drove 568 miles yesterday and shut down at 1400. I'm still waiting on my next load assignment 17 hours later and judging by recent history chances are it will be a short one. Hopefully things pick up...for all of us.

One Million Safe Miles Reached!!!

Congratulations, Kearsey! It would be cool to see in the coming years if any drivers from your training "family tree" also hit that 1 million miles mark.

Picking your Team driver for brand new cdl?

Hi, Jim. Unless I'm mistaken, it should be much easier to get hired as a team than it would be as a solo driver.

Most companies try hard to get their drivers to team up. When I was with both US Xpress and Prime fleetwide messages would be sent fairly frequently, asking for people willing to be team drivers.

If I was you, I'd look around for maybe some companies offering sign on bonuses or other benefits for hiring team drivers. Or maybe your current company will offer an incentive for a referral bonus if you can drive as a team there.

Often team drivers earn PTO more quickly than solo drivers.

When I was with Prime, a new driver had to go through TNT training before teaming with another driver. However the new driver could do part of their TNT phase with a Prime trainer and then finish TNT as a team driver with another experienced driver. For example, the new driver would do 30,000 miles with a trainer, then do the other 20,000 with the person they planned on teaming with. Maybe Kearsey can verify if that is Still the case.
