FMCSA

If you no show, it is counted the same as if you were to refuse a request for a test after an accident and is reported. As for cancelling, I dont think there is a time frame, if for example you get legit sick or there is a disaster or something then you would work that out ASAP with the carrier. Common sense and communicate, communicate, communicate. When we communicate and explain we can avoid alot of these pitfalls.

The FMCSA pretty much ties a carrier's hands with the rules in regards to drug/alcohol/testing requirments - very narrow in scope and specifics as to what must be reported.

For my own future reference what is the protocol for this? Is cancelling an appointment that is a week or more out ok if you decide to look elsewhere? How close to the appointment can you cancel/reschedule and not get a refusal?

I hadn't even thought of this possiblity as showing up as a refusal.

Was there an actual appointment time set up for a drug test and if so did you not not attend? (IE: you decided to look elsewhere and therefore did not go to said testing appointment?) IF that is the case, it would be perceived as refusal to submit for drug testing, which is report able yes. Did you communicate with the company prior that you were going to back out of the hiring process with them and look elsewhere?

I was just told by A LTL company I will be reported to FMCSA for not following threw with their hiring process and getting a drug test. Any way to dispute this question I never worked for the company just talked on the phone twice and got second thoughts of working for them.

And count me out now

If this I’m response to what I said to BK (Bruce?? His name?? I’m trying to keep track of names correctly) about his incident in checking on a fellow driver who was in some sort of distress, I’ll apologize for how I came off, I’ve been dealing with a very ill family memeber (mother) and yesterday we went to her palliative/hospice/ end of life care doctor for a sobering appointment and I was not in the best of moods, going forward I’ll limit my responses to times when I’m not consumed by family life, I came off more blunt than I intended.

Ryan - this is an excellent forum, the information I’ve been given and the challenges have helped me to realize almost $65 grand this year and we haven’t hit 12/31 yet. Please man take it in stride, Brett, Packrat, Gtown et al really just want people to excel in all they do in life (not just trucking).

Take care man

Bruce expressed frustration as to some of the rhetoric on this forum. I didn't post anything in response because it would have only inflamed the issue without providing anything of value to the forum. Nonetheless, I have similar feelings.

This forum is just becoming too draining, for me. Every time I post something, I have to anticipate what I am posting being taken to an extreme. I am tired of posting comments, someone responding and coming at me because of something that I have written, and then my legitimate response gets denied by moderators. I don't mind legitimate discussion, to include being challenged. I have a serious problem with being challenged and then my honest response being foiled. It's not a matter of false information because I have had comments not pass moderation where I am stating thoughts that are similar to those posted by moderators. The final straw for me is someone calling Bruce's integrity into question and that being a perfectly acceptable post while me pointing out that posting frustration with signage doesn't mean that I am not doing my job with trip planning.

As to why people go out this way instead of just disappearing from public forums, it's to prevent people from wondering or speculating what happened to so and so. You have it straight from my virtual keyboard as to what happened to me.

The handful of people who have recently started training and those who have made decisions to start soon, I wish you the best. Trust your trainers and let them be your first source of information sought. The safety officer at your company/terminal is also a source of valuable information. Ask safety about any questions you have. This safety officer will never lie to you about anything pertaining to the legalities of safely operating your truck, so when you are not sure about something being legal, talk to your safety department. This forum has an immense amount of quality information and there are many drivers here who have already faced any difficult situation that you may encounter.

Might I be back, at some point? It's certainly possible. For the time being, I am going to focus on my family, my career, and myself. Take care all. Be safe out there drivers.

Truck driver troubles

BK - I don’t mean to sound like an Ahole , but I sometimes wonder about some of the stuff you post, it’s like too much EXTRAordinary circumstances too often man…..

If this is legit, I hope all affected come out well and get the help they need…..

On Saturday I got a call to check on a company driver who was unresponsive. I was the only driver in the area, so I re-routed to get to her location.

I actually had to do some detective work at the truck location. I got some info from the CEFCO location and relayed that to the company. They eventually found the driver. She was wondering around. Either drunk, sick or on drugs. Unfortunately, before help could arrive, she wandered into traffic, on foot, and got hit. She is now in the hospital in critical condition. Very sad situation to say the least.

I just wish I could have gotten to her sooner and I know she would be ok if I had been there to help her. Her name is Susie and I hope she survives.

A new recipe to share - Cowboy Beans

I did freeze some, we had some for dinner last night and tonight , leaving some here and then taking the bull of it in my freezer on the rig!

Moe,

Did you freeze any of it? That really looks good. I'll have to make some of that when I get home in a couple weeks so I can take it out on the road with me.

A new recipe to share - Cowboy Beans

I’ll swing by later and clean up the ingredients list, I don’t know why it jumbled it all together like that when I spaced things out line by line, unless I did something wrong I am not aware of,

A new recipe to share - Cowboy Beans

I put together a new dish, new to me , not necessarily new new to the cooking world; last night and wanted to share it as it is really slamming good!

You will need: (Please note that this is for a VERY large portion that has fed 2 people the last two nights with plenty to leave at home, plus take some out on the road in my fridge, you can and probably should adjust the recipe to your individual need(s) if you want to try it out)

1/2 pound of bacon -preferrably Applewood Smoked -though I suppose hickory could work in a pinch 2 pounds of Ground Beef (Turkey is good too, in fact I did a one to one Turkey and beef since I made this for me and mom) 1 chopped white onion 1 chopped green bell pepper 1 chopped red bell pepper 1 Large can ( I used 55 oz of bush's original) 1 15 oz cans black beans - drained 1 15 oz can of kidney beans- drained 1/2 cup of brown sugar (less if desired or omit) 1/4 cup worchester sauce add your favorite bbq sauce to taste garlic powder (to taste)

How to bring it all together:

Take a large frying pan, peferrable one with a deeper dish/thicker walls - I used a ceramic lined pan as mom doesnt keep cast iron.

1) Chop the bacon into bite sized pieces and fry it up in the pan, do not drain the grease.

2 Add the ground beef and turkey and stir the meats really well

3) Once the meat has been cooking about 2 minutes - toss in the onion and peppers, cook the mixture until vegetables are cooked

While all of that is going, open up your cans of beans and drain the kidney and black beans.

Once the meat and vegetables are cooked to desired consistency, add the beans and stir them up.

4) add the brown sugar, worchester and bbq sauce and stir

5) add in your garlic powder and stir, you can also add black pepper if you like (I did)

Stir it on the stove for a bout 2 to 4 minutes - then toss the pan in the preheated oven and cook for 30 to 40 minutes to get the mixture nice and thick.

Goes good slapped on a low carb tortilla or just as a meal, prep time is a bit long but its a tasty meal! :P You can also add tobasco or whatever you want after serving it. Versatile and tasty!
