PoeticDrummer's Bio

I have my CDL from California. Obtained through the Swift Trucking School. It has been expired since 2012. I am looking to renew my CDL license. But in order to do that I have to fix my Florida Operator license that is currently suspended due to a financial responsibility judgement of 6,000 dollars because of a fender-bender accident I had in 1994 and not having auto insurance at the time of the accident. I have a bankruptcy attorney working on my case to clear the judgement against my license through bankruptcy.

Reinstating suspended license

I am in the process of reinstating my regular operator drivers license that has been suspended for over 10 years due to a financial responsibility. I am filing a bankruptcy to clear the FR judgement. The judgement is the result of not having insurance while involved in a fender-bender accident over 10 years ago. Will this affect me getting accepted into a company training program? Is there a company you can recommend that would be more likely to accept me? I have no DUI's or criminal record. Thanks for the info.

Terminated for drinking

I went through Swifts' Training and got my CDL. I went out on the road with my mentor for a few weeks training. A week into being on the road, my mentor had to go to a court date down in Los Angeles leaving me with the truck in Fresno. I found out later that my mentor ended up going to jail leaving me alone and wondering. I called Swift to see what I should do. They informed that they would send another driver to my location to take me back to headquarters to find another mentor the following morning. That night, I went to the local casino and had a few beers. I returned to the truck to sleep until the next morning. The next morning I waited for the other driver to pick me up. He arrived and told me that he had too many hours and could not take me. After he left, Swift called me on my phone and asked me if I had been drinking. I told them last night I had a few beers but not in the morning. It turns out the driver called Swift and said that I smelled of alcohol. My mentor returned from jail and drove me back to Swift headquarters where Swift FIRED ME!!.. They do not play with the alcohol consumption. Lesson learned. 9 years later, I am looking to become a truck driver again. My CDL has not been tarnished, no incidents, DUI etc.. it is only expired. I received my DAC report today and there is no mention of the incident. ***When applying for a driving job with a CDL with no experience, How should I approach the reason for leaving?** Any sound advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

DAC Report - Over 9 years - No News is Good News?

I went to school at Swift to get my CDL. I went out on the road to train with my mentor for a few weeks. Long story (somewhat) short, my mentor went to jail leaving me alone with the truck.I called Swift to see what I should. They told me they would send a driver to pick me up the next day to take me back to headquarters to find another mentor. Later that night, I went to a local casino and had a few beers. Returned to the truck to sleep. The driver showed up the next morning and told me he had too many hours and could not take me. So after he leaves, I get a call from Swift asking me if I had been drinking. I said no but I had a few beers the night before. They told me they would call me back later. By that time, they got in touch with my mentor and told him to take me back to headquarters where Swift promptly FIRED me. Ending my truck driving career. ..9 years later,... I get my DAC report. All it shows is that I went to Driving school with Swift for a 1 month period and my Transportation Employment history which shows Swift as my employer for 1 month. Nothing about the incident. My CDL is clear and intact, it has only expired. I am looking to become a truck driver again.** My question is: How should I go about or what should I say about the short period of employment and the reason for leaving? ** Also, can anyone recommend a favorable company that would hire me as a CDL holder without experience? Thanks for your input!!

DAC Report-Length of time

I got my CDL through Swifts' school. I went on to train with my mentor what was to be for 2-3 more weeks. A week on the road, my mentor went to jail and left me stranded. Long story short, Swift sent another driver to pick me up to get another mentor. The night before the driver was going to pick me up, I had a few beers at the local casino. The next day the driver shows up and tells me he had too many hours and that he couldn't take me. I found out later, the driver called Swift and told them that I smelled like alcohol. When I got back to headquarters, Swift fired me. My question is: Will that incident show up on my DAC Report and/or affect my CDL driving future? I didn't refuse a test. This happened around 2010.
