Got a ticket before school started

As others have advised, notify the company you were planning on training with. Do not travel to the school and try to hide it. The school will find it and bounce you for trying to hide it. If after notifying your recruiter, they decide to let you go, then immediately hire a lawyer to start working on getting that ticket either dropped or reduced. Actually, you should do that whether the carrier decides to keep you or not. It will cost money now, but has the potential of saving you a lot of time and money in the long term. Good luck.

CFI

I think Packrat stated what is really going on. To you, "recruiters are all liars"; so what makes you think CFI's recruiter didn't lie to you too? (On a side note, I was trained by and drove a short time for CFI. They were top notch. If I ever went OTR, then they would be my first choice.)

It doesn't matter if Roehl or WE didn't require a sleep study. CFI isn't either of those companies, so stop comparing. Also, it should not matter to you if a company has in cab cameras. Sure, no one likes them, but I believe they are activated only in a triggering event. Is there something you know you should not be doing in the cab that you don't want CFI to see? I ask, because it seems those cameras are an issue for you. You can spare me the "privacy argument" also.

You should have asked questions about sleep studies and camera's when you spoke to your CFI recruiter. Frankly, I think you didn't because then, if you decide you don't like CFI (just as you didn't like Western Express or Roehl), you can try to save face by saying "CFI lied to you."

You didn't ask your recruiter these questions before accepting a date to begin orientation?

Previous Trucking Company refused to pay my last check

I'll be danged. There really is a company called Timbaktoo Trucking, but they are based in Rose Haven, MD; not Timbuktu.

Previous Trucking Company refused to pay my last check

"Timbaktoo Trucking"? Is this a joke and are we being trolled? I have to look this up.

So, you used to "raise hell with the owners" and then surprised they fired you? Really?!

You stole their truck, got pulled over and the truck was towed?

What makes you think you should have received your last check? You are darn lucky the company owner hasn't pressed charges against you for theft of his truck.

I would love to hear what driver job you think you will get after your dumb stunt.

I live in Chicago and I worked for a company in Brooklyn Park, MD named Timbaktoo Trucking. Every week, there was some issues with drivers getting their checks on time, so I used to raise hell with the owners about my check. Finally, I was terminated because of "disrespecting the owners". When they terminated me, I asked, "how am I supposed to get all my belongings back to Chicago from Maryland?" He replied, "You'll figure it out." So, I drove off in the truck attempting to get back to Chicago. Long story short, I was stopped in Pennsylvania and the truck was towed. Now, they are refusing to deposit my last paycheck. I was a 1099 driver, but I solely worked for Timbaktoo Trucking.

Employer is ceasing operations.

Thanks PJ. I am positive all will work out. I will wait to see what happens with Westside coming in.

Don I feel for you, and all your drivers having to go through this. I have went through similiar 3 seperate times in my career and they all had a couple things in common, High stress and poor communication. In fact I just went through it for my last time in March and April.

Wishing you and all the drivers there the best!!

Just heard yesterday that Westside Transport is going to be International Paper's Carrier.

The information we got from the owners letter was they are ceasing their entire operations. There was no mention of closing select yards.

So it’s it just yards in Ohio? Is Tom being effected?

Well, I received news today that the company I work for is ceasing operations, with last day October 31st. They have been in business for a very long time, so the sudden nature of their closing shop is shocking. We hauled for International Paper, and it appears IP is going with another company to haul their product. I will stick it out until the end, and see about trying to get hired by the company IP is going to. What a shame. I truly enjoyed working for my employer.

Just spoke with a few higher ups; they are CLOSING select yards per Jim Baum. Wooster would BE one. Losing SOME accounts, and trimming the hedges, I'd guess.

Bird One, it's all 'tippy toe'ing' right now. Chicago is .. well, Chicago. They've got things in the works.

Wisconsin, on the other hand.... nobody knows. I've got no 'in's' there .. *yet!*

The 'boo boos' may even be 'patched' before long; nobody knows. Smaller 'yard' ops will be hit first, then again, even IF.

Will keep y'all posted, as well as Don will.

~ Anne & Tom ~

ps: The QC message Don got, apparently differed than ours/Tom's. It's a huge .pdf file, that ... I'll re read, and perhaps share. This stuff isn't 'new' to trucking; I'm not getting in a 'kerfuffle' myself; nor is the other half.. until we need to!

(So, email me your company info, on a J.I.C. basis, man!) ;) TIA ~!!

Depressed and burnt out

There is really no reason to feel burned out because either some consignee gives you the "you guys screwed up" bs line, or someone in the supply/dispatch chain screwed up. Do you personally load the trailer cargo? Are you able to crawl up in and look at each load sheet on a pallet/bundle? I would not think so. The few times I have dealt with some yahoo that blames "you drivers" on a load that was screwed up, I have no issue reminding them that I did not load the trailer, and (if they have an issue then) complain to the Shipper who did. My job is to get cargo to them on time without damaging it." That usually shuts them up. If not, I just walk away and let dispatch know what is going on. Thankfully, the vast majority of our consignees are easy to get along with.

It's been a great first 9 month's being a noob trucker on the DG account. One of the top drivers, and was given a brand new truck by my boss last month.

Had a situation with a manager who basically set me back half day because she was so angry with the DC. It affected me since it made me reflect on how DG managers/employees are constantly complaining and get mad at drivers because of what the DC sends them. Setting new records money wise only gets you so far before you don't care anymore.

Other than time off anything you guys do to lift your spirits while on the road when you're down in the gutter?
