Donna M.'s Bio

Happily Married will be 27 years in August. Have six grown children and 8 grandchild. Have driven a school bus for the past 4 years and really sick of it. I love big powerful trucks. Can’t wait to get out on the road. Have lived a life of doing for everyone else and fulfilling others demands and now I just want to challenge myself. Want to be appreciated when I decide to come home and not just cause I’m always here. Sounds selfish, however it’s time to be.

New state!

Hello, For parking, there is a Pride truck stop in Chickopee, MA that usually doesn't fill up early. its $10 to park, or free if you fill up with at least 100 gallons of diesel, and that will give you a shower too. And they have a '50s diner inside where the food is pretty good, and get the strawberry shortcake for desert. There is a McDonalds accross the street, as well as a bowling alley as well....

That was my regular stop on Sundays when I had a early delivery in CT.

I was able to get there a day early so I did go to pride. It was pretty late but there were a few spots left. The fifties diner was awesome. Grabbed a Swiss mushroom burger that night and a great omelet this morning. I delivered to a chemical company with a ton of rules but was gonna stay for the night. However my fm had other plans, so now I’m in New Hampshire one more new state. Guess I’ll miss Delaware and Rhode Island this time headed to Illinois in the morning.

Never Forget - 9/11

I don’t think any of us will forget and hopefully we won’t let our children or grand kids forget. My Grandfather was a navy man he died on D Day my Dad was 2 years old. My great Uncle was also a navy man, he was a POW for 6 years and on ship headed home that was blown up. My Uncle was Air Force he left for Vietnam two days out of high school. He died last year from agent orange exposure. My Daughter works for the Dept of Defense and her husband is a Colonial in the Army. He has done probably 7 or 8 tours to Iran, Afghanistan, and Korea. When my sons came of age they were required to register with Selective Services. Our freedom is not free. People have been dying for it since June 7, 1775. I guess that’s why illegal immigration bothers me so. Yes America was built by immigrants, but they wanted to be Americans. Illegals want to enjoy the luxuries of our country, make money and send it back to support their country and will never shed one drop of blood for this country. Sorry , but not sorry 9/11 was about some turbin heads that came here and we generously educated them to kill all those people. I’m not making a political statement nor asking for a debate just expressing my feels. 9/11 should of ever happen!

New state!

Once I get there I’ll be able to o/n at the shipper. I made it out of Texas today. I survived Houston one more time. Thanks for all the tips ! I’m really looking forward to the aggressive drivers!

New state!

Limited parking and unlimited impatient car drivers driving too fast.

Did I mention I hate driving most of the northeast states?

Congratulations to you for getting another new state, though. How many more do you need for the lower 48?

I still got quite a few to go. But I’m pleased with my adventures for seven months being solo. I really get excited and nervous about a new state at least till I get there then I’m like okay ready to go.

Donna, you could write your stuff up as a TT Blog entry. That's something Brett can decide.

In the meantime, here is Rainy's (Kearsey's) Blog entry: Sexism In Trucking From A Woman's Perspective

Sorry to have rambled on. We women do have some “different anxieties about certain things. We’ve all heard the team shower joke. Women need to be ready for such bs!

Hair testing and prescription drugs

Man that is a very serious drug! And u just quit taking it ? Klonopin blocks special receptors in the brain to reduce anxiety, stress, and difficulty relaxing. Once a person is addicted to the drug, their brain can no longer produce feelings of relaxation and calmness without it. This is why people addicted to Klonopin struggle to quit and are unable to function normally when they don’t have it. I would seriously seek some medical advice perhaps u are more unsafe to drive without the drug!

Driving for Prime

Omgosh thank you for sharing Donna!!! I can relate with so much of what you said. I just need to get the confidence in myself that I can do it. I've also read about a few horror stories regarding bad situations with trainers which is another concern of mine if we're going to be spending alot of time together... can you tell me what your experience was like. Do I get any input of who I get?

U will fill out a personality form in which they match u with a trainer. U will have a choice of smoker or non and male or female. Keep in mind female trainers are few and once u make that choice u can’t undo! My psd and tnt trainers were male.. I choice to go back out with a second tnt trainer she was female. That didn’t work at all. Two dominant females in one truck was horrible, lasted two long weeks! U will have a greet and meet with your trainer, they decide if they like u and u decide if u like them. Look for the respect factor! Like my first trainer said when u are getting dressed I will wait outside truck once your dressed then I will get dressed. It just shows respect for your privacy. Of course there are plenty drama people. They can make anything a bad situation. Oh he louder at me or cussed me, the whole time he was referring to the car that cut him off. It’s what u make of it! Now there are times when for whatever reason it just don’t work. Call prime, voice your problem, this isn’t their first rodeo, they will get a new trainer or whatever it takes. They are there for u to succeed. They invest money and time in your success. They give u the best of equipment, no ragged out junk, for u to succeed!

Driving for Prime

Welcome I’m with prime and I love it! I was a RN for years and really got burned out. Like I thought I was starting to hate people in general. I retired was bored our community needed bus drivers so I tried that. Drive for 5 years most boring job in the world. I started looking for other jobs with my class b license. They were for a straight trucks. I said no if I’m gonna drive a truck it’s gonna be a big one! One week later I was at Prime. I’ve been otr for about 7 months. I sleep in a different state most every night. I eat out , go to movies or whatever all over the U.S. It doesn’t take long to get use to the cities. I was through Atlanta couples days ago and only said one or maybe two ugly words. It was Houston today. Dallas is the one I hate I always stop and take a break before I get there. Then I’m like Dallas here I come! Backing is tough, but nobody came out the womb backing a semi! I still struggle with it but so what so does many others. The biggest part of this job is to take the stress as a challenge. I make everyday a challenge, if it’s road work, a new city, new state a tight appointment or just trying to beat my miles from the week before. No two days are never the same!

Prime Inc - Company Driver Travel Allowance? What Exactly Is Travel Allowance ?

double-quotes-start.png

I'm new to Prime and have seen company drivers online mention travel allowance as part of their pay without going into any detail about it. What exactly is travel allowance for company drivers with Prime Inc, how is the amount determined and how does it factor into your over all income working for Prime Inc. ?

double-quotes-end.png

Its the per diem and not taxed. 8cpm of our pay is non taxed, and shows seperately from the gross pay. Im doing a video on it shortly showing actual pay stubs.

Rainy could u please explain detention and the exact details. I seem to have a misconception of the details.

"I had mine removed about 8 years ago and never been prescribied any medicine. Actually I was much healthier after having it removed. "

Wow, Donna! I *respectfully* find that difficult to believe. You had a complete thyroidectomy? Just to be clear, you aren't talking about having a goiter removed or something like that?

My meds started running low recently and I've gone to taking one every 3 days for the past month to stretch it out until I get home. Just from the reduced amount I'm taking, I already feel minor effects: lower core temperature, minor, occasional numbness in my fingertips.

If your thyroid was removed and you dont take meds to do what your thyroid normally does, your quality of life will be significantly lowered.

U sound like the doctor that done my physical couple weeks back. He actually done a blood test to make sure my levels were good. They called me back a few days later and said everything was good.

Hurricane

My mom lives a half mile from Jax beach, and the rest of my family live a few miles inland. Believe me, I'm watching this one closely.

I live about 12 miles inland from St. Simons and Jekyll Island. It’s still gonna be nasty there.

I suffer the same condition, Rudy. Well, actually my thyroid was removed when I was 18. There was nothing during the physical that related to testing of TSH or T4 levels.

However, when I informed the doctor during my first DOT physical that I needed to take Levothyroxine, he asked for a note from my doctor stating that neither the drug nor the condition would affect my ability to drive. I had to call my doctors office and have a written statement sent to the DOT doctor.

Whether you even need to mention it during your physical, I dont know. I dont know how much these doctors investigate medical history.

I had mine removed about 8 years ago and never been prescribed any medicine. Actually I was much healthier after having it removed.

Bad day for one driver

So many accidents are happening in construction zones. It’s scary! I always pee people off, I’m not gonna rush thru construction areas. Uneven pavement, pot holes, barriers, misplaced barrels, plus a few workers and some equipment.. it’s an obstacle course.
