I talked to my preacher yesterday, He gave me a number to a guy He knows. I called him up and he gave me a number to a company he works for. Said he would vouch for me, even tho He doesn't know me. which is very cool of him. I'm gonna call them tomorrow. Hopefully this will pan out. I'ts flatbed, but it pays a straight salary of 1,250 a week and off on weekends. but I'll take it. if they will have me that is. we shall see.

Sorry to hear you had to witness such a tragedy Richard. I'm glad that it sounds you're in a better place now. If being homeless prevents many companies from giving you an opportunity check out CRST. They're all team, not sure how you feel about that, but one of our members MillionMiler84 went through their sponsored program and became a lead driver/trainer. I dont know how the dui policy with them though.
Yeah, I applied with them yesterday. said the DWI has to be 5 years old. which is next year on may 20th. "date of conviction"

There are plenty of companies that will hire you, you just keep filling out those applications.
Yeah, I'm trying to get my CDL again. wanted to go to Prime because they feed you and let you stay there while you get the CDL. as I don't have money to feed myself. But the being fired and having been at alot of trucking companies in the past. which most were way past the 1 year most trucking company sponsored training requires you to stay with them. it's like you say. they just need to bother with someone like me.
Agree with both OS and PackRat.
At this point - some of the larger companies are getting "pickier" on major driving offenses (like DUI's) because the large influx of applicants allows them to do so. Hence they "change up" on things like DUI's and criminal convictions, because they have plenty of applicants that aren't afflicted by these issues.
Keep applying EVERYWHERE.
Also helps to put your home location in your profile. There may be smaller regional outfits that you might have an easier time getting into - so it helps to know where you are geographically.

4 year old DWI and Employment History
Ok, thanks everyone. I appreciate it. I just want to explain a little bit about why I got a DWI in the first place. I don't really drink, in fact it can be years between when I might take a drink of alcohol. Back in Sept of 2014, I had been driving for about 9 years, the last 2 years I was driving for a company called Team One, which had a contract with UPS, who in turn had a contract with Honda/Acura at a facility in Irving,TX. We delivered parts to all the dealerships in North Texas and south Oklahoma and all of the dealerships in Colorado. It was a team operation. On that day about 4 miles west of the Texas Motor Speedway on TX 114. I was driving thru a construction zone when this guy in a gravel truck, owned by a company called Sunset Trucking, drifted into my lane on a 2 lane road. I had to take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision. but had no shoulder on my side. with the orange barrels. I avoided him hitting us head-on, but my trailer was struck. He then hit a woman that was following me head-on killing her instantly. He then rolled over and ended up in a field. and her car as well. I stopped and got out and was the first to come upon her car, " I didn't even know she was behind me, as she was following me too close." It was completely crushed as he had pretty much driven up on top of her. Inside I saw this woman who was in pieces laying flat crushed down. And she looked like my Mother, who was killed when I was 11 years old. Which devastated me as a child. So basically after this, I started to fall apart. I drove for a couple more weeks, but I stop because I was having trouble going down this road. I started having nightmares and my sister told me I had survivors guilt as I would go to a store or something and think about how this woman couldn't go to a store anymore. just things like that. I started drinking to just pass out at night. alone in my apartment. I went to visit a friend because I had to just get out of there. We were drinking and watching a race. When we started arguing, I ended up having to leave, but he lives out in the country. So there wasn't anywhere's to park. I had to drive about 5 miles and found a parking lot. I went to sleep and was woken up by police. and that's how this all happened. I'm not a drug addict or a person who has a drinking problem. I just wanted to explain why I got a DWI. anyways, since then my life has been turned up side down. All I know how to make money, REAL money that you can live on your own is in trucking. since then its been being homeless, living with relatives and now back to being homeless again. I just want my life back. So, I just wanted to clarify about why I have this DWI. for all the money I have spent on everything related to this DWI, and the lost wages from losing my CDL. which by the way. was downgraded a month before I got the DWI because I didn't go renew my physical, I could've paid a cab to drive me back and forth across the US several times. So thanks for reading this long post. Oh, not that it really helped me in the grand scheme of what happened. the guy had crash cameras on his truck. He tried to say I drifted into his lane. But it of course showed what really happened. the NTSB and TxDPS said I did an excellent job of avoiding a head-on and not overreacting and rolling my truck in that field on my side of the road. But this didn't help me really. as I just kept kicking myself on what if I could've done this or that to prevent that lady from being killed. just stupid stuff. I know I couldn't have done anything now to keep her alive. but at the time I was really bothered about it.

Welcome Richard!
You do know there are lots of opportunities out here besides Prime, right? They are very particular about the issues you have. Someone else will take you. Get over it and move on!
I'm always surprised at the way people get hung up on one rejection. I wish you could have seen how many companies rejected me as a rookie. I just applied everywhere I could until I got a few offers, and then three of them sent me home from orientation! I never once let it deter me. I kept my head up and stayed focused. I was determined to make it happen. Incidentally that trait has served me well in this business. I'm well over six years in now, and I can write my own ticket to where I want to work.
There's nothing that makes Prime the only place to get started. The best company for you is the one who will hire you and give you a shot at proving you can do this job. That's where you'll rise or fall in this business. It's really all up to you. Don't put so much importance on the name of the company.
Yeah I just tried several other's. But I'm afraid I the DWI is what's the problem. Will Transfer just called and told me the DWI has to be 7 years old. Even tho it says 5 on the info here at trucking truth. Anyways, thanks.

4 year old DWI and Employment History
Hello everyone, My name is Richard. I have a DWI I got back in Feb 2015. I got a conviction date of may 20th 2015. 1 year probation was completed in July 23 2016. I applied at Prime INC in march. I filled out the application, was told that I had to send it in again in may to have the 3 years since the conviction. then when I sent it in again in May, was told by another recruiter that I had to wait till 3 years had gone by on the date of completion of my probation. And that there wouldn't be any problems taking me on. they had all of my employment history from the very first application I sent in March. But now I called and was told they wouldn't hire me because I got fired from my last job. which they knew about already. I have had to move around from town to town after this DWI ruined my life. I didn't get the DWI in a truck. didn't even have a CDL when I got it. Not sure if there's even a trucking school out there that will take me on now because of this. Anyways, I just feel kinda angry that they would string me along for 4 months. when they could've told me this back in March.
