Possible new driver?

Someone remembers me! Lol Jk. Yes donkey check out yrc/reddaway they will train u if u have a cdl already sometimes they will have an academy to help u get your cdl. Look at their website and see what they are hiring for in your area. I don’t know if they consolidated their websites so check both yrc and reddaway.

Howdy, sir ~ and welcome to Trucking Truth! Don Quixote ... LoL!

Aside from our standard 'howdy:'

Look at some of the postings from BobcatBob, Banks, and G'Town has a 'doubles' thread. . . we've also got Delco Dave in our diaries forum, going through training with ABF right now. Banks' diary should serve you well; he did dock to driver! MANY more, too many to list/suggest; you'll find them!

Daniel B., our moderator that designed our forum pretrip, is an instructor with ODFL, in CA. It's sure a possibility.

Until any of the above reply; take a look see, at their diaries/postings!

Welcome again, and best to you, sir!

Broke down..brakes locked up on highway

Not to take away from your situation. But the other night I was driving up to Salt Lake City from Vegas and just north of mesquite I seen this truck on the shoulder so I got over to the left lane and thank god I did because there was a body ( I don’t think it was a animal) in the right lane. I think someone got hit but it was a quick glance but did not look like a animal like I said. :(

Supernatural or Spooky encounters on the Road

Nah they hang out around highway 95 in Nevada (close to the test site)

I once saw a Fed Ex ground contractor who wasn't driving like an azz.

Other than that nothing exciting I guess the aliens do not hang out around I-65.

Work day cancelled

They let him take a day cab home? I’ve never seen that. It’s usually otr drivers.

double-quotes-start.png

Due to the weather in Ohio, the Company I drive for cancelled delivering of our Consignee's product for today (Friday) and tomorrow. I am not certain if it was for Ohio only or at all locations, but International Paper in Wooster shut down due to no empty trailers were available to load their product onto. I cannot say I am disappointed, because no way did I want to be on the roads of NE Ohio this morning.

double-quotes-end.png

Good to know. Tom was cancelled yesterday (he's a pm driver) and we are waiting to hear from Greg in Chicago as I type...if it's a NO for you, probably us, too.

Yea, we are still level 2 here, also. Bummer is, Tom brought the truck home Thursday night. Oh well. She's just sitting here, haha!

double-quotes-start.png

My run is canceled as well, 3rd straight day of weather problems. That snow storm just hung out over Indiana and Ohio and messed up everything.

They are still making me come in and they will "find something for me to do."

double-quotes-end.png

Well, dang...that sucks! Greg is begging Tom to work Saturday, now.....but if Don's I/P is closed then, too.. might just not BE anything! Guess Tom will just 'peel off' a few of the 120 hours of vacay; Not sure yet.

Be safe, all y'all !!

Running Doubles

It’s air loaded lol when u supply air to your trailers it pushes against the dolly pintle to hold it in place.

Cool. Thank you Bobcat!

This one is the trailer brakes released, notice the extra piece of metal grabbing onto the dolly eyelet.

Doubles, Triples, and Pintlehook Dollies 101 ... I love this thread, so much. I never interacted when my ole' guy did this. Babies took precedence. Not that I'd ever go for this, but ... it's SOOOOOO educational, and I'm grateful. TYSM!

Can you guys, please (once again, clearer for the lack of my comprehension) explain what exactly that extra metal protrusion is for? Is it spring (or pneumatically) loaded, for safety of the rear trailer/dolly? Oh... wait, no air, so... duh.

Sorry if asked & answered; I really try to glean all I can from this thread, and I'm totally grateful, G'Town, and all !

Knight a good company??

If OD don’t pan out give reddaway/yrc a shot they have a training program to. They r hiring in Denver area.

Do they require you to be OTR for that month for training? That’s honestly doable for me, I have to give somewhere to get into a good job for my kids. They will have to spend that time in Utah with their dad. They don’t see him often enough so they’d love that extra time with their dad. I always hear great things about OD and I really want to set my family up good

double-quotes-start.png

OD position is the best bet for me. I know it’ll be difficult as any job out there, but this is the only job I’ve found so far that’ll work best for my kids, I know it won’t always be perfect but it’s the best shot I’ve got

double-quotes-end.png

double-quotes-end.png

They do a good job training new P&D drivers at my location they spend a month training then are eased into action once solo. Daniel B is a trainer for OD he can probably offer more insight.

Pretty happy with the training Saia has given me so far

It’s either impressed or I was just lucky. I just got me a bid run from Vegas to Logan ut no one wanted it because it’s winter. I’ll take the steady miles and checks in the slow time

That is good to hear! I've been wondering about their training program as my dad might be looking into it soon.

double-quotes-start.png

With my company u can start off with doubles but have to wait a year to do triples. I got lucky guess I impressed them enough to sign off on triples. Curious to c how they do it to.

double-quotes-end.png

OD is the same way, I guess I didn't impress them tho cause they didn't offer me triples until after my 1 year mark.
