Trying to start my career with a complicated felony situation. Looking for advice.

Hello all, first off I'd like to thank everyone responsible for this website and it's forums. An absolute wealth of knowledge and positivity that I'm still working through.

I've read through some articles pertaining to felonies and trucking but my situation is a bit unique so I figured it's time to ask the group. My felony is for criminally negligent homicides which I took as a plea deal. This was a result of a self defense situation that I had no control over. I was 16 at the time and was defending my mother but was charged regardless. I served no time in prison and had no probation whatsoever. Not to get too specific, but I have legal documents signed by my judge stating that it was a self defense situation and that I acted out of fear for my mother's life and my own.

I've spoke with CR England and Prime regarding their felony policy, and Prime said they do look at things case by case but I'm definitely not near the 10 year mark that they usually require, I'm 22 now. I'm not sure what my best course of action is at this point. My current plan is to write a cover letter that include a brief description of the felony and also include the court document as well. I guess my question is what's the best way for me to put my best foot forward? I have a lot of positive support that can speak of my character as a person, plus it's the only legal issue I've ever had not even a ticket.

I believe trucking would be an excellent opportunity for me to start a career that I can grow into. It's just an additional hurdle that I'll need to overcome. Thanks everyone for your help.
