Swift says.....

I went through training with Swift nearly a year ago and am still with them. But when I went through it was hourly too. Except it was minimum wage when you weren't driving and dollar above minimum when driving. Needless to say I drove until I had 5 minutes on my clock just about every day of training. It was also 25cpm starting out solo. But you are right about the pay raises. I got on a dedicated account off my trainers truck so I started with a little more than 25cpm.

Best companies to work for in Texas for new drivers

Hate to be the bearer of bad news concerning Texas oil field but I tried for nearly a year. Every company I looked into and talked to wanted at the minimum a year of OTR experience and more often than not 2 years. Getting out into the oil field fresh out of school isn't to likely unless you know someone because that's what I eventually want to get into.

Stuck out of hours

Alot of the time your not going to have the option of farting around and only driving 7 or 8 hours a day. You got a schedule to keep. Sometimes you will drive that clock to one minute left on it. You can do all the trip planning in the world. But what happens when you got a deadline to meet and you gotta get a certain amount of miles that day to deliver on time the next day and say there is a major accident that shuts down the highway. More often than not your Dm is going to run that clock to 0 because it looks good on their board because your delivering freight and plus looks good on you and that paycheck it shows you are dependable and willing to work as long as you don't hit anything and drive safely. Personally I'd rather run my 70 down and take a reset then run off recaps. If I'm gonna bust my butt I want my 34 reset for a break. To relax and take it easy and veg out.

How do you get home?

So I am planning on going to school at Swift in August. I was wondering, after I get through training and start driving solo do they let you take the rig home when you get home time? I live just outside St. Louis and Swift doesn't have any terminals there, so will I be leaving my vehicle at the nearest terminal and drive it home, taking the bus or what? thanks

Swift policy is 50 miles or closer to terminal and you park it there during hometime. 50 miles or more you take truck home.

New interstate

Don't forget about 35 down in Texas. They've been doing construction on it as long as I've been alive if not longer.

Hold do we even know what kind of accidents he has been in? What if there was nothing he could have done? Unless they were backing accidents. I've been in 2 accidents in the past 2 1/2-3 months and the only way I could have avoided them was to not be on the highway all together. The first one was rush hour coming out of Austin, Tx and I got hit on the side of my tandems by a lady staring at her phone not relaxing traffic was slowing down and going to fast and instead of rear ending the car in front of her she swerves and drills my tandems. Second accident was this past Monday coming out of Kansas City, Ks a little before rush hour. It was raining roads were wet. 4 lanes of traffic I'm in the 2nd right lane the guy that hit me was in the hammer lane. Traffic slowed he wasn't paying attention he locked his brakes, fish tailed, over corrected, slid across 2 lanes and into my steps bounced off the went under the trailer up to his windshield and slammed into my tandems and got spit out. Both accidents everyone was ok and walked away. What I'm saying is before we condemn him and we all think it was something he did unless I forgot how to read and missed it. Let's let him tell us about his accidents.

Volvo Low Beams

It seems the terrible low beam output is common on these trucks. Im in a 2011 and the low beams are so bad they may as well not be on. I have read a ton of stuff on google about HID conversions and different bulbs to try. Anybody have any ideas on something that actually works ? Keep in mind this is a company truck so I may be limited to just changing the bulbs. Any advice ?

Use your fog lights too. I have a 2013 and my low beams aren't to great and I use my fog lights. It helps.

Pre-Trip Exam - Engine Hood Closed?!

That's hard to believe liability or not that they won't open the hope so you can take your pre trip. Move to Texas there's no pre trip down here to get your lincense. You just have to pass air brakes and road test and that's it.
