Lara R.'s Bio

Just starting out, applied to a few different company sponsored training programs. Studying for my permit exam while waiting to, hopefully, hear back. Trying to learn as much as I can before starting training.

GREATLY appreciate the online training on this site, and wealth of related info. Many thanks to all contributors!

Female (otr) trainer or family?

Thanks to everyone that contributes to this site and forum. Its an amazing resource for getting started or just learning about this industry.

I've recently applied to two companies that offer paid training. Im hoping to be accepted with the same company my older brother drives for. I did plenty of my own research into other companies, and bro was good about not trying to force my decision toward one company or another, it just seems the company he is with has good training, good start pay & benefits, nice amenities.. all the qualities I was looking for.

When I really started looking into trucking as a serious career option, my brother offered to complete the "train the trainer" classes, and whatever other requirements necessary to be my otr trainer. I started to like that option a lot, mostly bc I am not very social, and do have some anxiety about sharing that small a space with someone I don't know for several weeks.

A few weeks later however, he kind of pulled back on that option, reasoning I might be better of with a female trainer. I can understand the logic there. His exact words being something like, "sometimes I just manhandle things into place, and I dont really know how else to do it." Not exactly sure what aspects of the job he was referring to, but it did seem to make some sense.

I know if I asked him to, my brother would still train me if possible, but I am wondering now if he migt be right about getting more benefit from a female trainer.

Thoughts?
