What sort of navigation system do ya'll use?

The primary prohibition against mobile device usage involves holding it in your hand. Mounting any mobile device eliminates the "handheld" aspect of the law, but several states do have laws that limit use of even a mounted device.

For the strict purists, simply viewing a GPS to follow directions is "use" of a mobile electronic device. Therefore, at least in the NYSSR, don't even look at your GPS if you don't want a ticket.

Improving efficiency through technology

I don't agree with your analysis. It's not letting the engine revolutions get too high. It's a simple fact that with the cruise on going up the grade the cruise will floor it. Because the cruise is trying to obtain your set cruise control speed. Disengaging going uphill and then using the throttle instead of cruise control flooring it will reduce the fuel consumption. Going downhill and the engine revs get too high is not using more fuel.

My best fuel economy, based on the onboard computer, was when I went essentially downhill for 60 miles. Within that 60 miles I obtained 19 miles per gallon. But my engine revs were still high. The injectors are not going to put fuel into the cylinder when you're going downhill even though the engine revs are high.

Under what circumstances would you stop to help?

I would not stop to help in any circumstance I can think of. Not bc Im heartless. I have no first responder/CPR training. I'd feel more like a hindrance to people who know what they are actually doing.

Even if there is one first responder on the scene comment you can help by following his or her guidance.

Standard procedure in certain circumstance involves putting the patients on a backboard because of the likelihood of spinal injury. But in many circumstances the patient doesn't realize they have a spinal injury and they hurt themselves before first responders get them on a backboard. One thing that you could do is simply hold the neck of a driver involved collision to keep them from moving their spine. Plus it's a a great comfort to most people involved in a serious accident to have someone there just trying to help them.

Some experiences and questions after my first month solo

Sandman asks

If you use TruckerPath while trip planning, wouldn't that info be old by the time you got to your destination?

Trucker path, even in the free version, has a trend option where it tells you when spots are available at different times a day. Plus, if you're deciding to stop at a rest area that's before the truck stop you can stop at the rest area go off duty then check Trucker Path to see if the truck stops further down the road have available spots.

I don't even know your question.

Are you asking about the litigation process or are you asking about trying to find driving job, which based on the title of this thread would be a waste of time on your part.

Suboxone and trucking

Joseph J says:

She said Suboxone is covered under the American with disabilities act and companies could not discriminate

I have no idea what this means. I don't understand how a medication is covered under the American with Disabilities Act.

I can understand if you have a disability and you take prescription medication as a result of that disability. And I understand that employers must make reasonable accommodations for a disabled applicant or employee. But I don't understand how categorically a medication falls under the protections of the Americans with the Disabilities Act.

One of the things we often see on this form is people asking questions based on a particular worldview that is out of sync with the nature and regulations of the trucking industry.

Thus, in addition to your prescription drug use, which most trucking companies will not want to accept you based on the liability, you also have the issue of your underlying mental health issue.

To be quite frank, I do not think that you should pursue a career where the side effects of your medication or another mental health episode could result in fatal consequences not only to you but those in your immediate vicinity.

To hammer this point home, my emotional reaction when someone cuts in front of me to make an exit and slams on the brakes is to wonder if they realize how close to dying they came. And the sad thing about it is it happens multiple times every day.

Flatbed Variety

Bobcat Bob,

Back when I hauled boats, I considered their shrink-wrap to be part of their securement not mine. Same thing with the Tyvek wrapping around the lumber. I learned that in most circumstances they wanted us to tarp the Tyvek wrapped Lumber to preserve the Tyvek bag. But if we weren't required to tarp it and the Tyvek bag ripped apart, not my problem.

I would not try to tarp one of the boats, because they are very particular about the boats. When I delivered the boats, they would usually take 45 minutes to an hour to inspect it for all the parts that were inside the boat plus any scratches. Any little scratch they would note.
