Can I back out of Family Dollar account? Swift Transport...
Well I can't get hold of my recruiter, probably because it's Saturday. So, I'll drive out to orientation and talk to the driver qualification coordinator on Monday about switching to reefer. If they tell me no, I will drive home and look for another job to get started.

I will never understand why any company would try to stick a new driver into one of these type of accounts. IMO it is just filling a hole in the fleet, and setting a new driver up for failure right at the start of their career.
Yeah, I don't mind the idea of unloading a truck. I've been unloading trucks with rollers for years now, but I didn't think about the backing part of it until I did some research. It just sounds like a nightmare for a rookie driver like me at this point.

Thanks for the replies. I've emailed my recruiter and will call them later today. I head out to orientation Monday. I can't wait to get started.

So I have my CDL I got it from going to a private school. Anyway, I got hired on with Swift and was talked into the Family Dollar account and I am set to head to orientation next week. If I ask to switch to reefer will they get upset? I've been reading about the Family Dollar accounts and everyone says backing is hard for rookies.
I wish I knew that before I allowed myself to be talked into taking the FD account. Does anyone have advice for dealing with recruiters and changing accounts?
If this was asked before I apologize.

I will. I will just let them know I think a year of over the road makes the most sense for me right now. I know they also need reefer drivers. So, I don't think it will be a problem, but you never know. I was planning on going reefer, I should have just stuck with that anyway.
