Military benefits?

It became an option after 9/11 for those who deployed in support of the War on Terrorism. It’s kind of funny even typing that... haven’t heard or used that phrase in many years, but yeah. You had to commit to serving for a certain number of years to do it, which for me meant more deployments, but it was doable.

I honestly thought that wasn't allowed. Has it always been that way?

I do, but I'm transferring them to my daughter.

So the contract is for nine months instead of twelve? That’s good to know.

We do have some forum members at Prime who are ex-military. Rob D and Spaceman Spiff immediately come to mind, and I'm sure there are others.

The only thing I know about the program is it shortens the length of contract from 12 months to 9. Someone will hopefully be along soon to give you more details.

That's the only benefit offered to me by Prime, other than a sticker for your truck,

Awesome, Turtle. Thank you. FYI, your training diary is extremely helpful and is a big reason why I’m leaning toward approaching Prime first and seeing if they’ll take me on.

Military benefits?

I’m transitioning out of the Army after a long career. I’m planning on signing in to a large company that offers training. Many of them look good, but I’m leaning toward Prime. I’m trying to get more details about it’s Military Fast Track program, but I can’t find anything specific. Does anyone here know where I should look? Also, if you’re at another company that offers veterans benefits, I’d love to here about it. Thanks to all on this site ... I’ve been reading the forum for years and it has been really helpful.

American Central Transport/ACT

This probably won’t be useful, but I’ll put in my two cents. I’m not a driver - just someone who is considering becoming one - and I mostly lurk. I do happen to know ACT though. My brother in law’s dad started the company, and it’s still family owned. The oldest brother now runs the company. My brother in law says they put drivers first and go out of their way to keep them happy. Take that for what’s it worth - that’s coming from a part owner (one who isn’t even involved with the day to day operations of the company).

Local jobs - around 50 hours a week?

I’ve been lurking here for a few weeks and have found all of the advice here really helpful. I have never had a driving job before, but I’m considering diving in and going for it. Here’s my question though - after training and one year driving solo OTR, how realistic is it for me to find something local with day hours that don’t exceed 50 hours a week?

I don’t need the highest income. 30,000 a year or more would be fine. What I would like to find longterm is something where I’m home daily, work more or less daylight hours, work 12-hour shifts or shorter. I don’t expect to get this as a rookie- looking forward to paying my dues out on the open road running hard for a year or more, but I don’t see myself doing that forever. The goal I’d be working toward is a job like I described. Possible? Are there jobs like that out there?
