Long road to Prime

Recap: I had an incident on my 2 wheels and find to be at fault. Didn't fight it. A year goes by and I run the idea of trucking by the Wife. She likes it. One of my old friends from HS drives for Prime and has no issues. Research. I like what I see. I apply. Get told call back in a year. Sad. Another year goes by. I apply again. "Not currently hiring from FL." Broken heart. Ok, mass applications, maybe SWIFT/Knight? Nobody bites. Another year passes. Considering getting CDL-A on my own dime. Come here for opinion. Rainy/Kearsey says hiring freeze lifted (thank you again). Apply again. Accepted (excessive fanfare). Obtain permit, pee in cup, and get physical. Start date 11/30. Orientation begins. File review, CBT's, clearinghouse permission. All good. Simulator room for a couple days. Take personality quiz. Get access to Millennium and plaza. Tire class and intro to PTI. Wait for trainer assignment and practice PTI. Got trainer. Fellow student from orientation assigned also, cool. Get in truck, "you're driving to KC."... Wut? Ok. I got this. (Small misunderstanding about previous xp). Two weeks pad time inc a run to Omahahahaha. Test day. Trifecta. Assigned TNT. Incoming from Ca, wait a couple days. Meet for a few in millennium. Now I lay in campus room. Can't sleep. Leave at 4 for PA. Shiny side up, rubber down. Update when I can.

Just passed CDL test

Congratulations.

Mind if I ask if anything stuck out as a curve ball? Taking mine tomorrow in Pittsburgh, PA. And honestly getting nervous. Though been using the Highroad training

Nothing really, just got nervous like anyone and messed up backing a bit. Take it slow and don't stress.

Congratulations on the first step. Put your head down and really focus on making it through TNT it's brutal.

Are you going reefer, dry van, or, the coolest division of all flatbed?

Reefer for a while. My shoulders are a bit too messed up for flatbed due to the incident on my 2.

You can change it to whatever you like, but Driver in Training is more accurate.

Regardless. Great job getting your CDL

Not sure if this counts, it's definitely a long ways away from home for me.

Career direction choices.

Thank you again. Just got notified by email that my application was approved. Crazy ride to get here, but I'm at the start line and couldn't be more nervous/excited. And with Prime at that. Kearsey, thank you, thank you, thank you. I can't thank you enough for notifying and the hiring freeze being lifted from Florida.

This was a worry of mine aside from training in inclement conditions.

Latest update, SWIFT sent a message showing interest when COVID was first showing up, said they'll be in contact when the DMV resumes normal operation. A month later I checked in w/recruiter and got the response that SWIFT is not currently hiring from your area. Unfortunate as they are my target starter here in Florida. On the other hand, the fleet tech at my current employer says if I go get my CLP, he'll assist in getting my CDL. I'm on the fence now, waiting for the DMV to resume even semi-normal operation vs. get my CDL through alternate channel and maintain until acceptance with an OTR company (current employer only delivers local). Opinions? Questions?
