Time to Say Goodbye...

Good luck to you, Rainy. I only just got here but I know already I'm going to miss your input. I'm sure you're going to take your great attitude to your new situation and so you're going to do well.

Try again

I did my first session of backing practice (in 23 years) yesterday and found the blind-side alley docking quite difficult. On my way home I realized that I probably need to get glasses--53' trailer, small mirrors--I suspect the cones could look a lot sharper. I have been passing eye exams up to now, 59yo, so I feel fortunate. Considering asking for a pair of slightly telescopic glasses, say 20/18, since I will only need them for backing for now.

It's hot out there, what's a trucker to do? Can't idle.

It's sad when you can go to jail for leaving a dog in a car - but no one cares that truckers can suffer or die.

Sad but true.

Not to mention the horrible tragedy when a child is left in a over-heated car. Breaks my heart.

Since were on the subject, many trucks have sensors to prevent idling when the outside temp is below a certain degree. I think Schneider was 72 degrees. There were a few times when it was about 70 degrees outside, and my truck wouldn't idle for more than 5 minutes. I could try to park with the front of the truck facing the sun to heat up the sensor (My Frightliner had the sensor in the back of the driver side mirror.) However, even at 70 degrees, it can reach 80 or more inside the cab. I thought about wrapping a 12V heating pad around the mirror to trigger the sensor, but never got around to doing it.

Hot weather is a real problem for me as I get older. I can bundle up in cold weather, but I can only take so much off before people start calling the police. So, my question is: How do you deal with the heat?

My trick for dealing with unavoidable heat requires some practice, but one can get better at it: fasting. If you've ever tried it you know you start feeling cold after several hours. You can use that to advantage. At the very least, eat lightly.

Classroom week done, yay. Painfully long at times, but it's mandated so whatcha gonna do.

Next two weeks: pre-trip, coupling, backing, etc. Two weeks?? Yeah, only 3-4 hour days and... mandated.

I will state directly and unapologetically that if you were not born a woman, you do not belong in a woman's restroom; nor do women who identify as male belong in a men's restroom.

Asking philosophically... Is this because our parts determine our behavior, that is, we don't really have free will?

I grew up with Star Trek and Star Wars, and I look people of the various races and the otherwise very different (from me) as simply "aliens" from other worlds. I hope if I give them a chance I'll learn that they are, like me, working for the Federation towards a common goal. I know this might sound flippant, but it really is the practice I use all the time and have for many years. It's science fictional but has a real, positive effect every day.

Perhaps u having a problem looking at this from a woman’s point! I could care less if they are from Mars. When I enter into a women’s bathroom in a truckstop in the middle of the night and the only other person in there looks to be a man. My first thought is he here to rape , murder or play peek-a-boo! I have put myself in a bad situation, because really no one even knows you’re in there.

Your op asked "guys" to answer how they would handle a person in the men's room at a urinal dressed "like a woman". You got my answer. It was not very different from the other answers along the lines of "I could care less".

Also applied to Bison today. They take new drivers if they already have their CDL. Still undecided on OTR vs. local/seasonal, but thought I'd get that Bison app in early since they have a 13 week training period. The local driver postings often say "willing to start immediately".

Three days of classroom down, two to go. The drugs and alcohol module seemed to last forever, so boring to one who does no drugs and very little alcohol. This school is beginning to look quite a bit better than the school I went to 20+ years ago in Denver. I suppose that's because of the M.E.L.T. law.
