Lacking Double Clutch? CDL Test

I think it may be my best option at this point then spending the money and risking it. I imagine there is great drivers at Prime to help me and I just had bad luck but it does make me worry about going for another try but at this point I do not think I will get the training where I am. I just got to wait for the right time before I travel for training again. Thank you for your help Old School. I am glad I came here first before coughing up the thousand dollar down payment they wanted to start lessons.

Lacking Double Clutch? CDL Test

Nick, New York trucking schools are notorious for being rip offs from what I have seen. If they cannot promise you a training certificate indicating 160 hours of training then don't do it. For a new inexperienced CDL holder that certificate is imperative for being able to get hired anywhere.

I realize you had a bad experience at Prime, but I think you just need to try it again. Prime has a way for you to contact somebody that can get you with a different mentor if there is a problem. Will they take you back?

Well I certainly was not a problem and left on good terms so I would hope they would take me back. Maybe I could try talking to them and see what my options are. I did not even know of the training certificate and I am glad you mentioned it and the hours needed. The schools hours they offer are not even close but that was another question I had. If I was to try for my cdl test would I need close to that many hours or can it be done in less then continue my training in a program? The few schools around me offer 13 hour and 18 hour courses .

Lacking Double Clutch? CDL Test

double-quotes-start.png

Nick, I am leery of this school, because there is no such thing as having the double clutch present. Double clutching is a method of shifting that can be done on any standard transmission, it is not a type of clutch itself. Also you will be required to double clutch when you are being tested at the DMV. Also, if you are planning to go someplace like Prime, why even start out by paying tuition to attend a school when Prime will pay you to train at their school?

Also leery of a 6 speed unless its an automatic?

From what they said it was not. Sadly in my part of new york there is not many schools. I know closest is not always the best but trying to find the best options.

Lacking Double Clutch? CDL Test

Thanks for the fast reply old school.

I was a bit confused about them saying that but I wanted to make sure that there was not something I was missing. Sadly Primes beginner program was something I attempted and it was fine up to the point of me getting assigned to a driver. It did not work out sadly and I did not learn any thing while on the truck. Not for a lack of trying but the driver from how I saw it only wanted me in the seat. I drove when I was not learning but he wanted to enjoy netflix and he did not know the pre trip on his truck. I got off the truck but by the time I saw things were not going to work it was too late to get a new driver to train with. It set me back so I am worried to go away for another program.

Lacking Double Clutch? CDL Test

I am trying to prepare to get back on the path to earning my CDL A and I was looking at the schools near me and the closest one [ the others are over an hour from me ] trains on a 6 speed that does not have the double clutch from what they told me. I was wondering is it a good idea to learn without it and later learn the double clutch cause I plan to go to a finishing program like prime has for when you need more training before going solo but I am worried the truck they have may come with restrictions on my license. Is it ok to test without the double clutch present?

The journey ends and a new one begins..

I thought about doing dispatch but dont you need to have driven or been in the industry a while to do that? Also the mechanic idea is something that sounds great too

The journey ends and a new one begins..

Sadly after all the studying I did on this very site and traveling to Prime to begin my training to earn my CDL I ended up cutting the journey short when I realized as much as I love the industry and the tractors and how they work it just was not for me to actually drive one and it took me actually going through training for a month to come to this understanding. I may not end up a trucker myself but I want to ask you all what else can some one who loves it so much do in the industry beside actually being on the road. I do not want to walk away from this path all together and I am wondering if any of you know some other ways I can stay near something I enjoy. : )

Looking for Company-sponsored CDL training in NY?

Thanks for the fast reply. That is good to know that they are far reaching like that. I had thought they were only working around who was local in terms to the company.

Looking for Company-sponsored CDL training in NY?

I am just starting out and currently working on my permit to get my CDL A but I was wondering if there was any Company-sponsored CDL training offered close to or here in NY state. I saw on the site a listing of different companies but most are further west. Any help would be greatly appreciated, guys.
