Carlo, I'm a trucking insurance agent who just found this forum. My first couple questions to you would be as follows:
* What are you going to haul?
* Where are you hauling it to (radius)?
* Do you operate under your own authority?
I can tell you I will do anything and everything for you under the sun, but until an agent knows about what your business plan is it's unlikely they can come up with a game plan for you. As Sid V. said, responsiveness is key. Access to a variety of carriers is another.
Most important thing IMO is to develop a relationship and take note of the type of questions agents ask. I can tell you all day about the wonders I can do, but if they don't fit your business it does nobody any good. I have to contact a prospect this evening and tell them I can't provide anything better than what they currently have. I hate doing it, but hopefully down the road they appreciate that I didn't BS them.
