Work for a person I know local to me and learn to drive or go to a school?

Not sure what to do i have a "somewhat friend" that owns a expediting company and really wants me to work for him. I have a CDL permit he is wanting to teach me the ropes. Should I go with it or just go to a school then try his plan later? I'm sorta nervous either way. Please no bias opinions. Thanks for reading and hope to get many answers.
