Trouble

On my 3rd day at the Swift Academy in Waco, Ga. 2 days ago. I and another student had to re-do our DOT physicals owing to a clerical error committed by Concentra Clinics they said. No problem. I passed again as I knew I would. Already had the 1 year card; 1 year because of type 2 diabetes. To get that card had to provide A1C and all types of other documentation from my own MD. Fine. Did that. As I was filling out yet another Med Exam questionnaire I omitted the part about type 2 diabetes seeing how we had already gone through that just a few weeks before and Swift and FMCSA were fully apprised of that condition. When I arrived back at the academy from a local clinic both the academy director and coordinator were waiting for me. They were quite livid and pointed out the discrepancy between the 2 physicals taken just weeks apart. They would accept no explanations from me. Really, there was nothing I could say. They both further stated I was guilty of making a false statement on the form and they ejected me from the school.

Waiting

Passed the Ga. CDL permit test today. Hope to start training with Swift soon. More waiting. Was informed that one has to have the hard class AP license in Ga. before one can start training anywhere within the state. Was told it should arrive in the mail in 2 weeks or less....

Getting Started

You're right. The first physical Swift sent me to the MD would only issue a 3 month card. He referred me back to my own MD to have an a1c and blood glucose. When I had done all that and had a metabolic panel as well, and it came back normal and they were satisfied that I had a glucometer and knew how to use it, and was taking metformin, the doctor rapidly and cheerfully issued the 1 year card. An a1c of 10 or more is disqualifying. Mine was quite a bit lower than 10. So if you know anyone with type 2 diabetes tell them to bring an a1c and blood glucose less than 3 months old to their physical and it will save them quite a bit of time and hassle. They'll gladly give you a one year card so long as they know you're aware and making attempts to manage your sugar problem...

Getting Started

Passed the DOT physical recently and was issued a 1 year card. Have type 2 diabetes. Should start the Swift training academy in about 3 weeks at the academy in Waco, Ga. Ready as I'll ever be I guess. Massive change in lifestyle-going from a stationary homebody to traveling for a living!

Getting Started

I passed the DOT physical last week and was issued a 1 year card owing to type 2 diabetes. I should commence the Swift Training Academy in Waco, Ga. in about 3 weeks. The academy is only 29 miles away. I tried this once before but backed out. I know little to nothing about the trucking industry and what I do know is likely based on faulty information. I have basically one question-how difficult is it to go from being in one geographical location your entire life(60 years) to suddenly being all over the place in near constant motion? I fully expect being razzed for asking such a question .
