Everyone has to have a GPS or an app for that GPS. I'll admit that GPS is decent for your highway routing but I think people forget that amazingly enough, you can make it from point A to point B with an atlas and quick phone call. Are people not learning trip planning anymore?

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

I can speak for swift and crst... Swift teaches trip planning but crst don't... I use GPS but I use phone GPS with satellite view and if I don't like that route I will find another...

I love Google Earth and use it all the time to get a good look at exactly where I'm going so I can figure out how to get in, whether I can park there the night before etc. I still think too many people rely on their gps though.

My CDL School taught us trip planning.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Trucker Path is a real good app but never rely solely on any GPS. Use your maps and plan ahead
