Ok, so my driving exam is next week. I am taking my test at the DPS in Longview, Texas. The lady that I talked to said there is no pre-trip inspection exam. Does this tend to happen because ill I have been hearing is that there is always a pre-trip? Next she said there would be a airbrake test. What type of air brake tests do they exam for? Next, I have heard there will be a parallel parking test, a 45 degree parking test, and a straight backing up test. Is this what y'all have experienced? Any input would be awesome! Thanks.

Pre-trip Inspection:

A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.

Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.

Do a search for DOT Brake Test on the Web. You will get more content than you can shake a stick at.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

I have checked the Internet, but I guess what I am really asking is some of y'all's experiences and in Longview , texas if possible.

BJ, the air brake test is done right in the truck by holding down the brake pedal with the engine off for one minute and watching the air pressure gauge to make sure its not losing pressure. Then after that you will pump the brakes until the the parking brake and trailer air supply buttons pop out.

In Texas there is a pre-trip test only it's a computer done test where you match the pictures of parts of the truck with their corresponding written names - this just to make sure you know what you should be looking at during an actual pre-trip inspect.

I'm a little troubled by the fact that you don't know theses things already but I'm assuming that means you didn't go to a driving school. It's going to be really tough for you to get hired with that approach unless you already have something lined up. I wish you the best and urge you to be extra cautious and safe out on the roads.

I'm from Nacogdoches, and I can tell you that Longview is extremely lenient. If you can drive at all they will pass you. Try not to bump a curb with your tires and you'll pass at that DMV station.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

As Old School said you should already know this as its taught the first week of school. If your not in any kind of school then your job possibilities will be far and few between because most companies want you to go through an accredited school and have a certain amount of hours 160 to 300 hours in school is about the norm.
