You guys gave me good advice when i failed my first dot urine test, well now I'm Back with a clean system and a renewed spirit. I'm starting Celadon training next week in Indianapolis and was wondering if anyone had any info on the school or tips for me? Like what I need, what to look out for..etc any help is appreciated. Thanks again!

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

I've seen a few folks on here from Celedon. They should be able to help you out.

Good luck!

Everything is pretty much, provided for you. Dont over pack, the dorm rooms are tiny. Make sure you have the correct birth certificate, with certified stamp,ss card, etc. Lots of people bring incorrect items.

This. And be patient. Treat it as a long term interview. There are a lot of students and a handful of instructors. They were trying to button things down when I was graduating in April. Hopefully they've cleaned up some of the inefficiencies. If you get aggravated, take a breath. Like I said, treat it as an extended interview process.

I appreciate it guys. Just wanted to know what to expect kind of, and items I needed but I have the correct birth certificate, ss cards, passport and all that. But would you guys know of something to bring that you didn't but you wish you had? Any comments on how the dorm is?

Dorm is small. Has a bed,a night stand a stand up closet and tv. There is a full gym with workout equipment and basketball court, so maybe gym clothes? I never went in there,I was a loner.

Thanks Jay, I'm pretty much a loner myself. Especially when it means getting one of my goals and dreams accomplished. I've been reading the stories people are posting and am taking it with a grain of salt. Keeping an open mind to what everyone said will form my own opinion. i was thinking about what you said to treat it like a long term interview...interesting way of seeing it. I'll have to use that approach. I've also listened to Brett checking people when they have negative things to say or have certain expectations about the training. So like I said, I have an open mind. I know driving a big truck was a dream so I'm going to make it a reality, no mAtter how long I have to stay in line on the range or weeks it takes me get it. I will get it. Thanks for you input. Safe travels to you out on that road.

T.Bark, a few other things (I didn't go with Celadon, but these are common issues):

You may be frustrated like all get-out in your training. You may feel the instruction is inadequate, that you should have more teacher face time and/or driving practice. Most company schools do seem inadequate this way. Bear with it, do the best you can, you'll probably make it. Usually the school prepares you only enough to pass the CDL , then you go on to road training with Celadon.

When you "can't" back your trailer like you want to, just remember, It's not you. It's the process.

Get some leather palmed work gloves. You will be standing outside lots, so pack accordingly.

Above all, have a great time at Celadon's school. You will graduate!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Thanks Errol, I will keep all that in mind. I'm sure it won't be all peaches and cream but I'm built for the task, whatever it may be. I appreciate the tips. Safe travels to you out on that road.
