The heat comes from what is commonly called a "bunk heater." This is a very effective heater which sips diesel from your tractor's fuel tanks for it's fuel. It will run you out of the truck if you're not careful.
Don't get all concerned about idling. All these companies have a stated policy about it, but they all want their drivers comfortably rested - I noticed in another post you mentioned using a CPAP - you will need to be idling for the power source for that anyway. Everyone idles when necessary - the companies understand you have got to be comfortable so you can rest properly.
CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.

Since you knocked out 2-n-1 on that reply, what's your take on Schneiders 3 week training vs others that seem to utilize approximately 6 weeks....?

I've been wondering about this as well. Where does Schneider train out of? Would be nice if they did it close to home for me.

Newbie back again with some inquiries before getting started... I understand Schneider has strict "non-idling" policies and are not a proponent of APUs.. Where does the heat come from in the winters?
APU:
Auxiliary Power Unit
On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.
Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.
