Hi, I'm Connie S, and I'm a trucker almost. Along the way, I am wondering if other truckers had problems with name, birth certificates and getting passports. It seems that because of my age some of the documents were out of date, were not available or had to be replaced, Has anyone else experienced these problems? They are making me more determined to get a CDL License. Hope to hear from someone about their experiences.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I'm wondering if there will be an issue with the fact that my passport still has my maiden name as long as I have a certified marriage license with me.

I've heard some say they have. I'm not sure of your age or home state, but being 53 myself, and married/divorced a few times, I've not had any issues so far... however, my background is in healthcare in a discipline that required me to have state and federal background checks many many times over the past 20 years. I'm thinking that had to have helped me anyway.

Despite that, it would probably be wise for me to dig around and gather all that stuff as my documents were lost/misplaced or damaged over the years. Btw I do have a certified copy of my birth certificate, my original social security card with my maiden name on it, and my current card showing my name now with my social security number on it that matches the original. How I managed to keep up with that one for over 30 years is beyond me lol.
