DOT Card And BP Question

Okay. I had my first day at Knight Orientation today. The physical assessment, which I was worried about, I passed with no problem. But the part I wasn't worried about, the DOT physical gave me problems.

When I took a DOT physical about 3 weeks ago for my CDL permit, I passed with flying colors and was given a 2 year card. My diastolic has always been in the mid 70-s to low 80's. But today, I got a case of nerves or "white coat syndrone" or something and my diastolic was just over 90. As a result the examiner only gave me a 1 year card. Bummed me out. I'm sure if she would have taken it 30 minutes later, it would have been below 90.

My question is, once you are given a 1 year card, is it ever reinstated to a 2 year card? If my BP is lower in a year when I retest (and I'm sure it will be) will I be given a 2 year card again or am I forever limited to 1 years cards?

Thanks.

You're not doomed to always have a one year card.

If next time your blood pressure is down then you will receive a two year card.

I believe that anyone who is taking blood pressure medication is limited to the one year card though, someone correct me if that is wrong.

Old School you are right. As long as you are on the bp meds the best you can get is a one year card. If you get the bp below 140/90 AND off the meds you can go back to two year cards.

Next time try harder to relax and control your breathing....I've played with it on this little BP tester I got of my mom's.....I smoke and drink coffee a LOT, it can be near too high or low, and found with breathing slowed, I can regulate the readings, even while smoking at that very time etc lol Eat some bananas too prior, heard they help.

Last time I had a full on hiring physical, by time the lad doc got to me, 45 minutes later, my BP was elevated. She commented on it, I said "Yeah, sitting here, freezing in my boxers, waiting on YOU, is why!" She shut up

And do not eat any restaurant food, especially fast food the night before? They put a lot of sodium in the food, which will cause the high bp
