I read that article but couldn't find anything new or interesting they were proposing. It sounded like they were simply going to get into the brokering game. So I looked around some more and found another article that really spelled it out.
From Convoy raises $2.5M from Jeff Bezos, Marc Benioff, others for new on-demand trucking startup:
Convoy’s on-demand service matches trucking companies with shippers that need to move freight, like pallets of steel, for example. The startup has built a smartphone-based, Uber-like system that lets truckers find jobs in a matter of minutes without the traditional legwork — and monetary cut — required when using a broker.
In other words, they're going to be a broker.
The service lets both truckers and shippers book orders on short notice and track the location of containers in real-time.
That's already being done.
This is the line that really sums it up:
“The beautiful thing about this is that we are going to make money the same way people are already making money in this industry — we’re just giving customers a better experience and charging less,”
So basically they're going to become more efficient brokers.
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
