I wonder what this means for prospective people looking to get hired by swift.
It means nothing Kevin, don't even give it a thought. It will be business as usual at Swift. Trucking companies make acquisitions fairly often and it usually isn't even realized by the drivers.
Well thats a relief because swift is one company I am looking at.
If I were a Central employee or prospective employee, I would be more concerned about what the future held than if I were a Swift employee or prospective employee concerning this issue.
I was waffling between Central and Prime, but now it seems I have more incentive to run with Prime...

No, don't think that way. That's just "big business". It won't mean a thing in the end. Big corporate guys move money around and change infrastructure all the time. There are so many unknown backroom deals in the trucking industry - people would be shocked to know how that stuff works. Ignore it.

Yes, you read that right. I just got a message across my Qualcomm about 20 minutes ago announcing the sale, and confirmed it with an article from the Wall Street Journal. Apparently Jerry Moyes paid himself $189 million cash to fold the two companies together. There weren't any details on operational changes in either the WSJ article or Qualcomm message, so I have no idea what, if anything, is going to happen there. I do find it slightly amusing that the rumors that have persisted for years about Swift owning Central are now actually true though.
Here's a link to the WSJ article if anyone's interested. Swift Transport Buys Central Refrigerated
Qualcomm:
Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.
