Something Odd With My Qualcomm

Something odd happening on my Qualcomm. When I park for my 30 minute break I put myself offduty, at the end of it I watch the clock say "30 Minutes" and my DOT time updates so I start driving again only to get a little ways down the road and it reverts back to the the original 8 hour time. When I check the log it says I only stopped for 29 minutes. I thought I was just messing up until today I had my wife riding with me and was showing her the 30 minute break clock, it changed to the new time and before we even got 15 miles down the road it did it again. any ideas?

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Your QC got updated to put you on driving status as soon as the wheels turn.

Basically, if the wheels started rolling at 0900 it wouldn't put you on driving until you rolled a specific amount of miles (usually 2). So if you rolled at 0900 and traveled 2 miles at 0903 then your driving status would begin at 0903 not 0900.

Now, the clock begins as soon as the wheels turn and no longer takes the distance traveled into consideration.

That's what happened

But the clock already changed to the 30 minutes before I move? the DOT timer even changes to the update time "before" I move?

How much time is left on your 11 hour drive clock or your 14 hour clock when you take your 30 minutes?

I run my 8 down to about an hour or so, still have 3 drive to get added when I stop for my 30 minute, 14 is more than drive. I credits my time on the Quall, but then it goes back to the original 8 timer.

I know when I was with JB Hunt and had PeopleNet (that system sucks in my opinion), I had to be very careful how I did my 30 minute breaks or I would have drive time issues as well. I always tried to run my 8 hour clock for about 6 or 7 hours (8+6=14), take my 30 minute break. If I was not on a real tight schedule, I would try and take a few extra minutes past the 30 just to ensure I did not start out too early and have to take another 30 to reset it again. Then I did not usually have any issues with time. As long as the minimum 30 minutes is satisfied, and you go a minimum of about 6.5 to 7 hours before you take your 30, then when the 8 hour clock resets it will reflect the next required 30 minute break past the allowed 14 hour clock (if all this makes sense to you).

One suggestion is to check your clocks before you start moving to make sure you have all your timers at the expected levels. When the 8 hour clock resets, it will show another 8 hours before you are required to take another 30 minute break. Are you sure you are not confusing yourself with this? I know I did that a few times before I realized what was happening with the 8 hour clock resetting.
